The chest actually requires 24 pieces, IIRC.

Good to know. Okay, before I go any further...I am thinking about attempting the final fight rather soon. Is there anyone here that can recommend a good team of party members to use for that fight? I'm currently using Mog, Terra, Celes, and Sabin.

Anyone at level 50+ who knows the high-tier spells will work. There are some combinations that can decimate the final boss in one turn but I won't say what they are.

You are going to want at least 9 characters or so higher than level 50. The final dungeon forces you to split your characters into 3 parties before the final fight.

Some difficult decision making was required since the last progress report. Here's what happened:

So making progress through Kefka's domain took so many tries, I considered giving up. But then I remembered that a wise man once said "Never give up." So anyway, in choosing who my teams of party members are, I had to base it on the following:

On each team, I want one or more allies that can Cure (if at least one has the Life ability, that'd be evern better)
At least 3 of the 12 party members I find rather useless (Setzer, Gogo, and Umaro), so I only put one useless party member on each team
Which Esper to equip each party member with (come to think of it, I can't believe I didn't consider that a long time ago)

As expected, some of the random battles got to be tougher, so I knew I needed a full supply of Fenix Downs if I was to have any chance against Kefka. After a few failed attempts at the first leg of the dungeon, I finally reached a save point. The objective for next time is to reach the save point right before the final fight.

That's all for now.

White magic is the most important set of spells to teach your party members. If you need a good place to grind for Magic Points the desert south of Maranda has battles that always give 5 or 10 Magic Points- though one enemy is much easier if you use an attack that ignores defense (Edgar's drill, Sabin's first Blitz, etc.)

Gogo...
Useless...

You do realize that he can be made a clone of literally any other character in the game right? He should be at least as useful as your best character. Give him Blitz, Tools, and Magic, and he becomes even better than your best characters.

Not only that, but give him Magic and he'll have all of the spells that everyone else in that party has combined. Gogo may have lower stats and less equipment options, but as a Mimic he is awesome.

Good to know. And in case you were wondering, the 3 characters I find the most useful are Mog, Terra, and Celes. But from what you guys are saying about Gogo, I'm willing to give that a try.

Kefka should be close by now. Here's what happened:

Based on the amount of game overs I got lately, I've noticed it's getting a bit easier to memorize what route to take for each of the 3 teams. So I make it to the room where all 3 teams eventually meet up. But then the farthest I got was this battle with the Guardian. And just based on the fact that one of my teams doesn't have much MP left, I should remember next time to use a team that'll have enough MP to get up to wherever the next Save point is.

That's all for now.

Don't you have Tents to use to refill MP at save points?

I do. But since I entered Kefka's domain, I saw ONE save point. And only one team was able to use it.

Time for another progress report. Here's what happened:

This time I decided to have the one team that earned the save point finish their path last in hopes of having a better chance of making it through this leg of Kefka's Domain. Well, it turned out I didn't need to do that this time. Because I actually made it further than last time. I used a different team to fight Guardian and it paid off. After the fight came the next save point so I don't have to go through that whole bit all over again. Next is the fight with Poltergeist (name reminds me of Bouldergeist from Super Mario Galaxy). I can already sense Kefka being very close.

That's all for now.

Each team should encounter at least one save point over the course of the dungeon. Most of them will appear after fighting optional bosses.

Be that as it may, Dyne; I only remember one team reaching a save point during the first leg of Kefka's dungeon.

There is also a handy glitch: If one team is standing on a save point and you swap over to another team, they're able to use a Tent where they're at so long as they don't move.

HORRAY FOR RELICS! Here's what happened:

So I realized after failing to beat Poltergeist, that I didn't really give the relics much of a chance. So, I went through all the ones I had and at some point I finally figured out the right ones to use. The biggest reason for losing at that boss was his Zombie status ailment attack. But luckily I noticed a relic that can make you immune to that status ailment. So I used it to my full advantage. And with that said, I finally defeated Poltergeist. At this point now, I am down to ONE Tent. My plan is to use that right before the final fight so everyone can be at max health going in.

That's all for now.

You really need to look into relics, bud. There are some game changing combos in there. I can't believe you've gone this far without them.

I know. As of last night, I totally regret not using relics a long time ago. Now I just need to remember to swap relics to the other two teams for the last few bosses before Kefka.

Hope you were using Sprint Shoes at least, especially for the game's timed missions.
