Okay, time for a progress report that brings both good and bad news. Here's what happened:

Good news: I finally beat Zeal once and for all.
Bad news: I lost to Lavos Core THREE times in a row

During one of my attempts, one of my allies actually survived the Grand Stone attack, but for the others, it was a one hit KO. There could be only two explanations as to why I can't seem to beat Lavos Core:

1) I haven't figured out the strategy as to win (and I know there's info on this boss in the walkthrough, so I'll make sure to check that)
2) I'm still under level and I need to do more sidequests just to do more leveling up.

Based on these two theories, it may be awhile before I'm finally able to beat Lavos Core.

That's all for now.

Okay, well not much to explain here, but here's what happened anyway:

Okay, my past few failed attempts at battling Lavos Core got me thinking that maybe I'm still under level. But it looks like I may have found the BEST place for grinding experience points (even better than Black Omen): Geno Dome. That's because there are four battles in a row that take place on a conveyor belt, and they re-spawn if you get on the conveyor belt again. So, I'm gonna use that to my advantage. On another note, I thought of getting the Sun Stone but I didn't memorize how to do that. But if I decide to try again at getting the Sun Stone, I'll read the walkthrough for that. So, from here on out my plan is to do 90 minutes of grinding and then another attempt at Lavos Core the next few times I play until I actually win. Because I'm certain that Lavos Core is beatable at some level other than 99 (I'm currently at Level 55).

That's all for now.

Equipment choice might also be helpful. Have you made sure to check through all your accessories to see if any special attributes would be useful? Also, have you been using all the Tabs you've been finding during your adventure?

For the record, you're at a sufficient enough level to beat Lavos. Lantis and SK were at Level 51 when they beat him in the let's play.

I remember beating the game in the low to mid 50's.

I've noticed that with some of the accessories, the game doesn't give you a description of it when you scroll through them all. The hard part about choosing accessories is deciding what I should be more concerned about.

Case in point: Going into the final fight, my big concerns are both status ailments and having as much MP to use as possible. Now I'm not sure if those would take precedence over having higher defense. That'd be something to find out.

And as far as Tabs go, I haven't really found a big use for them. Basically I've been using single & double techs, as well as any back-up items I might have.

Tabs permanently increase your stats. It's like a free level up for each of your stats.

Well, I did it. I FINALLY BEAT THE GAME! Here's what happened:

So, I ended up using the Geno Dome to grind Crono and Marle to Level 66. For some reason, during all of that grinding, Robo gained more experience than Ayla (I'm not really sure how that's possible). Anyway, before I started all of that grinding, the three that were leveled up the highest were Crono, Marle, and Ayla. But when all the grinding was done, Robo was leveled higher than Ayla. Therefore I couldn't bring Ayla into the final fight like I wanted to. Anyway, as the battle with Lavos Core was starting to wind down, I got really concerned about the fact that it would take one Grand Stone attack to ruin everything. But luckily that didn't happen.

Anyway, now that I've beaten the game at least once, I plan to post my overall reaction to this game very soon. So, be on the lookout for that.

I can't remember so Lantis will have to confirm this for me, but is this one of those games where a party member doesn't gain experience points if they are dead at the end of a battle? That's how most RPGs are, anyway.

Okay, everyone. Now that I've beaten the game once, it's time for me to share my overall reaction:

So this RPG was totally a new experience for me basically due to some of the features I did not encounter in the other RPG's I've played:

1) The whole time based mechanic in battles. When I started this game, I was used to the turn based mechanic. But as I got further into game, I learned how to use the time based mechanic as a strategy which paid off most of the time.

2) The single, double, and triple techs. At first I didn't find a use for the double and triple techs, but someone I ended up using these techs to my advantage. And I liked how the techs provided more (and possibly better) healing options than most of the items provided.

I'm sure there were others as well, but I can't seem to think of them right now.

Overall, I had a great time playing this game. In fact, next year I'm willing to try another RPG (I'll post a poll with some nominees in the Mag forums soon)

Now as you guys know my LP of this game is coming up in two months. With this in mind, would anyone be interested in doing guest commentary with me for that? If so, please let me know.

And finally: I want to give a big thank you to EVERYONE that helped me out along the way throughout this thread.

Magic will almost always heal more than items will. The only exception to that is if the item heals all HP and/or MP. I would encourage you to try more RPGs in the future, as they are a really good genre and they have good stories woven into them. I have recommendations, but the majority are on gaming systems that I don't think you have. But since you have a Wii, get the Gamecube game Tales of Symphonia. It is a VERY good RPG and it plays differently than Chrono Trigger with a more Super Smash Bros type of combat. It's possibly one of the best on the GC.

Glad you enjoyed Chrono Trigger, though. It was a good SNES RPG. Also, what systems do you have so I can recommend some RPGs to you?

So, if there is anyone interested, a few things to know:

1) Since I have not figured out how to record live commentary over Google Hangouts, it would be post commentary over Skype
2) Anyone that does join me for commentary, I will post a link to your YouTube channel in the video description
3) We'd meet in the MagChat prior to start time.
4) My upload schedule for my solo LP channel is 5 days a week

1) It's not that complicated. You would record your voice like usual, and you can have your guest commentator record their voice and send their file to you.

2) That's common courtesy and I'd have to hope anybody would do that.

3) That would be easiest.

Well, if that's the case, I'd need someone to help me test out Google Hangouts if I was going to try live commentary.

Okay, guys. In about a week I will be recording my first episode of my Chrono Trigger LP. But before I do, I need your opinion on a decision I've been debating about for quite some time.

Should I LP the game in Normal mode or New Game + mode?

If at least 5 people respond saying "Well, that's really up to you", I'll choose New Game +.

Normal. New Game + would just make the LP super easy.
