Go to the fourth page to see my current modding in progress!

three memory sticks slots with leds to let you know its active selected by a switch, dual nubs, usb power, ipod port for controller out, modded controller for use of ipod port, built in mic, two 1.25 inch stereo speakers in the umd bay, and if I figure a way to make it look good, I will add L2 and R2 buttons for PS1 uses.

Have any of you hacked your PSP? Wanna share your experiences?

I personally will be installing a custom firmware my slim PSP this weekend if my friend who has a fat PSP comes over.

I already purchased another Sony battery to make into a pandora battery and I have two 1GB MS's and one 4GB. I also have all the necessary files and emulators I plan to run (PS1; SNES; Genesis).

I just first need to install a custom FW on my friends fat PSP so I can use it to do the same to my slim.

I don't have a solder iron with a fine enough tip to safely work on the battery so if anyone has a suggestion I am listening.

By the way I'm not 100% confident so if you have a tip, shoot. :P

Oh wow, funny you should post this.

I am also getting ready to try an throw some homebrew software on my PSP as well.

I have all the software ready to go, but I need a bigger card. The one I have is too small for the applications I want to use. So after I get my bigger card, I'll be voiding my warranty, so to speak (I bought it online, so it had no warranty to begin with).

I saw some co-workers with the results of a modded PSP.

Secret of Mana FTW!

Needless to say, it was awesome.

For the pandora's battery mod, you don't particularly need a soldering iron at all. It definitely helps if you want to return it to a normal battery, but that didnt matter to me as I had an extra.

This is a VERY informative video (with links to all the files you need to the side) that helped me get through mine. For removing pin #5 on the battery, i just used a safety pin.

Thanks for the link Feros :)
I also feel much better knowing I don't need to use a soldering iron on the battery.

And Lantis, I may be wrong, but I I heard that a 4GB is the biggest to use while modding and after that whatever is gold.

Well, there's a custom update that allows for 8 gigs. But I won't be getting one that big.

Well I just made the battery but ran out of time before work so the rest will have to wait.

I'm not fully sure that I know exactly what Pandora's battery and associate software enables you to do.

Is it required to run homebrew applications like NesterJ and irshell150... or can those be ran without the hard mod.

The way it was explained to me is it is a replacement os for the psp. This new os is more of a skeleton that associates the official fw with it but doesn't flash the official onto the psp. Just uses it as an extension so the cfw doesn't need any illegaly obtained code.

The cfw is just an enabler to run any homebrew, which cannot be done at all with sony's fw.

And if you already have a psp with cfw with 1.5 kernel or sony's fw1.5 you don't necessarily need the pandora battery.

Of course this statement is just an indirect quote which I may have misunderstood. But I think I got the jist of it. :)

I have a 1.50 Kernel add-on (v2 for Fat/Psp-1000 Model) . Say's it's for 3.90 M33.

The current FW for the PSP is 3.90 so I assume that this add-on is a way to get you the 1.50 kernel without having to downgrade or hard mod.

I guess I'll find out...

That M33 suffix is actually part of the cfw developed by a group called m33... isn't it? So you would first have to install that in order to use the add-on with the 1.50. But the 1.50 kernel (extension or otherwise) is incompatable with slim. Or did I miss something :\

I guess we will both find out soon enough :P

You know what, you are right. I'll have to downgrade before I can get M33's cfw in. Ah well... thanks for catching that for me.

After exploring the links in the youtube vid feros linked, it seems I have been overthinking the entire thing! I really recomend poking around in there and I personally have changed my mind on which files to use. I now intend to use the files supplied in feros's link. Its just so simple now.

Once again thanks Feros! You just saved 4 PSPs from being overly worked :D

SUCCESS! The world has become a happier place.

On the downside I ruined two batteries. The first one I made a cross connection while lifting pin 5 so it burned the board, the second one turned out fine as a pandora but naturally is no longer a normal battery and is strictly a tool.

I got a few of the programs I wanted to work but there are still some things I'm unsure of. I still don't quite know how to get my ps1 games onto my psp. And I also had to drive 25 miles to my friend's house to use xp as the pandora gui lacks vista support.

I am curious how you're doing Lantis.

Haven't yet got my card yet large enough to support all the apps I want to use.

I'm still trying to find out if I can find a way to get these working without hard mods. Which I'll need a 1.50 kernel for. There's no real way to downgrade from Sony's 3.90... so I may just have to wait till the next update comes out and hope M33 makes a cfw for it instead.

If so, I should be able to do everything I've wanted to.

I did mine from a 3.90 to a 3.80 M33-5 using a pandora and a magic ms.

If you are trying to avoid the hard mod, I could mail you my pandora and a 1GB MS that has all the necessary files. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Those same 2 items have been used today for 3 fat psp's and 1 slim. So it should work for you.

you HAVE to use a pandora's battery. There is no other way, and probably never will be. Pandora's Battery can downgrade any system, though.

Feros, since you have obviously more experience than us, do you think you can explain to me how to put my ps1 games on my psp? I tried using AutoPopstation4 but it failed in execution and was missing the 'Results' folder. Maybe this is just another case of XP>Vista.

So far, I've just been using remote play. Though that's not a very liable option for on the road or away from home. It would be wonderful to use... say... rpg maker 1 on the go. I mean, at least for playing. I probably wouldn't use it for creation... kind of like the EPSXE.

And I will be borrowing insults battery and files to get my psp off of it proprietary bs. Much appriciated... I'm a lazy bastard. ^_^

I have now successfully completed 6 PSPs and I will be sending the pandora to Lantis Monday or Tuesday. I have to say if you have a PSP then DO IT! You can always go back, there is no fear of bricking with the pandora, and I mean, cmon.... Super Mario on PSP!!!
