I was just pickin with my guitar controller for my PS3 when I spotted a little plastic cover towards the bottom. Further inspections found that it was a cap for a 4-pin RJ-11 or a phone jack. Curiosity got the best of me and I looked online to try and find the ramifications for such a port. But to no avail...

Anyone here know wtf it's for?

I have no clue if the Wii, Xbox and PS2 controllers have one as well, just so that you know.

I believe that is for the rechargeable battery pack to allow charging as you play and still remain universal for all consoles. Of course I heard that from a pimple faced 16 yr old gamecrazy attendent so I may be wrong.

Oh and the 360 has it to and if his theory is correct then the other consoles with a usb port would also need to have it as well.

Actually, I heard something. A few forums say that it might allow for an adaptable foot-pedal later down the road. But that was from fans and not from the game creators, so I'm not sure how liable it is. The only reason I'm even really mentioning it is because I ran across people saying that in more than one place... but no one had any refrences.

A foot pedal would be awesome and makes alot more sense than what I was told. I hope you're right.

Do you really need a foot pedal for a fake guitar game though. Also you can already change the sound in rock band through a flipswitch on the guitar, but it gets you nothing but a different sound during overdrive or solos (Chorus, Wah, etc). So I think a foot pedal would be fairly pointless and not really add a lot to the gameplay. Also you could just get the Rock Band guitar and rock band if you wanted that functionality.

As for the phone port, not really sure what purpose that could serve, since it's not really an ideal choice for data communication, and I can't see the GH controller being used as a phone.

And I agree. I mean, I think the only thing it would really be is an easier way to access star power really (there has been times durring expert songs that I've accedently activated it too early which ruined me passing the song)... also I could care less for altering the sound, if that's what a pedal would have been used for.
