DISCLAIMER

This is a review. Therefore there are spoilers. I'm not good at writing spoiler free copy, nor do I want to as it makes it hard for me as the writer to fully explain the topic at hand in a coherent manner. I am aware that it is possible to do that, but I'm TOO f*cking LAZY TO TRY.

So STFU and DEAL.

On with ye olde review:

Guitar hero 3 is a little different from its predecessors. While it retains the same base gameplay experience, the graphics have been overhauled and it adds weird new elements.

But first, lets discuss the new guitar that comes bundled with the game. The PS2 version is the 3/4 scale wireless Kramer. It is a double cutaway, and has a smart battery chip installed that automatically shuts it off when not in use. This occurs when you do not press any of the fret buttons or strum the strum bar. Fear not however, for simply pressing the buttons a few times "wakes it up" so to speak, as long as the wireless receiver is switched on. (this is so you don't actually switch it on while you are demonstrating its total awesomeness to friends and/or family, thus wasting battery life). As well as being wireless, it is also COLLAPSEABLE (!) for easy storage, and easier backpack toteage capacity.

ALL THE OTHER *cough*newer*cough* consoles received a white Gibson Les Paul, (which is totally unfair). However the new guitar is a lot more SOLID feeing than other GH guitar controllers. it also has a certain "heft" to it that is really indescribable. It really seems well built and durable; more so than you would expect from a mere controller.

On to the game.
As i said earlier the graphics have been updated, but I also found the sound quality lacking. It seems as if the guitar tracks on the cover songs have been completely re-dubbed and a funky "grungy" guitar sound has replaced them. The hammer ons and pull offs are also a bit different. While they are a tad more forgiving in that you don't need to hit them at exactly the time the notes pass under the fret button, they are less so in that if you have a long string of them, you can't just pick them up by hitting the hammer on's at the right time, you have to strum at least once to "get the party started" so to speak. Two of the characters are gone from the game, but several new ones have replaced them. There is an Elvis Prestley clone named "Budvis" and a Tobor like robot named "Metalhead" as unlockables. You can also unlock Slash from Guns n' Roses, and the lead guitarist from Motorhead and playable characters.
Sadly (for me at least) the coolest character "The Grim Ripper" is now Wii and X-Box EXCLUSIVE, but instead, we get to play as (get this) "Lou" The Devil. The characters blown away? Clive Winston is gone, and Pandora has sort of merged appearances/been absorbed by with Judy Nails. This is a bit troublesome as my GF and I would always play as those two characters, Me as Pandora and her as Judy. :\

I don't have a complete setlist as of this moment, but there are supposedly 71 tracks in total, with 48 on the main setlist, and the rest unlockable.

I'm planning to learn how to play Guitar Hero.
Probably in December.

I'm really good at rhythm games like this, and someone at my work challenged me to beat him at it. D:

In other words... I'm getting it.

My friends at school had the demo for it on xbox360, there was only one part of the demo he couldn't beat. I can't remember the exact song but it was by Tenacious D.(he plays on expert only)

We're pretty much loving guitar hero 3.

The group and I have unlocked all the expert career mode aside from two songs in the last tier- the Slayer song and "One".

Personally, my most recent victory was beating "Through Fire and Flames" on hard mode. I'm an expert player; however, the DF song is nuts.

woah Im stuck on those same two songs on expert.
I even got 3% into Expert Through the Fire and Synthesizers.
Woah! Freudian slip!!

It's pretty cool. The timing is wierd and hammer-ons feel slimy, but I like it and the setlist isn't too alt-rocked out. I like how they used original cuts on some songs instead of ruining them by re-recording them with lousy vocalists.

It's nice to see Living Colour being acknowleged too.
I swear all Disturbed vocals contain the brown noise.
Cliffs of Dover is like crack, I can't stop playing it.

I give it One thumb up, and one thumb at about 72 dgrees.

I got three sometime last week. Haven't touched anything under hard. I'm stuck right now on the song by Slipnot.

I like ALOT of the tracks on there. I was uber suprized to see Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, AFI, and such. Funny thing about Weezer is that my room mate's name... is Jonas. ^_^

SK came by... he's alot better at GH than me and almost finished the game on hard. Anyway, I'm enjoying it.

Great, I finally beat Raining Blood and One, only to get stuck on the final Guitar Battle!! I don't care who you are, no one can do a double note solo. Thankfully, being a lefty who refuses to play with lefty flip on, the lefty flip thing isnt so bad. But as soon as that dork get a double note, instant failure.
Still can'tget further than 3% int the Dragonfarce song(woops), which is really annoying cause I can do the rest of the song, I think. There really should be a thing in practice mode to tell you if you're failing.

Okay, I just have to point out the programing detail that went into the game. I just marvel to see the lead singers actually mouthing the words of the song. I always thought that they looked rather puppet-ish in I and II... Sometimes, like in Metallica's song, the lips-sync gets a bit off, but like in AFI's song, it's like spot on.

Heh, what's worse is that I know the words to alot of the songs in III so I find myself trying to sing along and play ... which doesn't go very well. ^_^

Although I haven't actually reached that point, yet, I examined both of those songs you have mentioned on expert mode in practice, and neither looked very fun to play at all (*cringe*); it was difficult enough trying to overcome them on hard mode alone. ... And if you were saying that you beat Raining Blood and One on expert mode, then I applaud you, ... and I also would like very much to know your secret. ^_^

Strangely, it only took me around ten or so attempts to win that battle against Satan or whoever that guy is supposed to be, but then, if it's against the epitome of all that is Evil, Sarah's Knight will never lose! :angel

.... Not until I tried to play that Dragonforce song on expert did I ever fail a song at literally zero percent completion. Eesh .....
