Paper Mario? Not sure why its "paper" Mario. I thought it would be like paper boy from the title. But it looks like a cooler Mario one from the screen shot.

Because the graphics are literally presented in a paper (and cardboard) look in the PM series. Each of the characters, for example, if they turn around, they actually flip around like a piece of paper would. Buildings would have the doors drop down and the walls fold open as you went inside. Paper Mario 2 (Thousand-Year Door) used a larger multitude of paper effects, like the screen ripping in half to reveal a secret passage, or Mario turning into a paper airplane to glide through the air; the coolest effect being if you went into a pipe, where the screen would crumple up and be sucked into the pipe.

Strange and fun if mixed together, can make a good combination somehow ^^ =lol

I also have played the previous series of PM. It is fun, with all the jumping here and there, but it's the music that's really whacky

@Lantis-Ohoho!That comic is comical >___>

I have it for the old N64, and I have alot of fond memories.
Like when the shyguys invaded, and they stole that one guys dictonary. And then you had to get it back, which ment going inside a book. And when you had to make that one fat dude a cake and he's like Oh, oh, oh!!!! God, Id play that part over and over.
You have to almost the same thing in the Thousand Year Door, but you must make an invisibility potion,instead. Took me over a half hour to do. Very annoying. :(

I have finished Supoer Paper Mario and most of the side quests.

I love this game to death, as I do most RPGs that have the guts to poke fun at themselves. Killer fun app, and a great addition to the series.

Major bump for Lantis, on account I'm sure he'll be wanting to do a bit of ranting soon.

What makes you think he'll want to rant about this game? Last time I heard he couldn't put the controller down! :lol

I only couldn't because I was obligated to do so because a friend wanted me to play it... so he lent me his copy. Last night in Skype you would have known my pain. I played a good bit of the game while skyping... it was interesting to say the least. Anyways I have heard little to no bad things about the game. So when he told me I should play it and offered me his copy, how could I say no?

So here's the deal. On paper, the concept of the game sounds awesome. The execution however just falls apart. You are in a 2D game that you can flip to 3D at any time... it is mostly to make platforming a bit more interesting as well as hide a bunch of stuff. And it's a novelty. It's nice for about 15 minutes... but then, you'll start to notice something. It starts to get a little taxing to do. You see, you can't stay in 3D mode forever. If you stay flipped in 3D too long, you'll take damage. So a function that is required to continue the game, you admonished for using. And what's worse, every single map you will need to explore in 2D... then again in 3D. But while searching in 3D you have to pop back out of 3D after your bar is almost up... wait in 2D for it to fill back up... flip back into 3D and continue your exploring. AND on top of that, you'll have the ability to scan the screen for any invisible objects that you'll have to do to complete the game. So you'll actually be going over any one area THREE times before you and ready to leave. Oh, and to make matters worse, only Mario can flip... you'll have a party of four (all with unique skills). So you'll always be changing back to Mario just so you can check to see if there's anything vital you missed in 3D. . This will eventually drive you mad... if you have a soul anyways.

Ways this could have been fixed? First let all characters flip. There's literally no reason not to. OR don't put a time limit on how long you can stay flipped... this too made no sense. OR if for some strange reason you just HAD to have the limit, automatically fill up the bar the second you flip out of 3D. I can't tell you how many times I had a empty bar, flipped back to 2D, set the controller down, and when and did something else on the computer waiting for that damn bar to fill back up. The frustration only gets worse if you are on low HP. You know that sound that plays when you are on low HP in a Zelda game? Imagine that... but two to three times worse. That's Super Paper Mario's low HP sound. And it's bad enough you have to listen to it at all in the first place, but having to just sit there and wait while your 3D bar fills back up makes me want to punch a baby repeatedly (while screaming like that guy from Borderlands in berserk mode).

And I haven't even gotten to the actual game... just the mechanics. But now I will go into the actual progression of the game. The progression is modeled after older Mario games. Eight "chapters" with four parts to each chapter So it's like SMB1 level naming system (Like Chapter 4-1). But between each world... er I mean chapter, you have a hub world you need to visit. Remember in Mario RPG how you had to collect the 7 stars? Imagine if you had to find a randomly hidden pillar to put a star you just got before you could continue with the game. That's Super Paper Mario. Some people think it adds pacing to the game... but I found it horribly annoying. It felt like it was artificially lengthening the gameplay. I ended up just resorting to a walkthrough to get it done faster. Actually, that's something I need to elaborate on. I, for the most part, avoid using walkthroughs as much as possible. Call it gamer pride or what have you, but I generally prefer to play game without having to bury my nose in a FAQ more than I'm playing the game. I'm not going to lie though, there's generally a breaking point where I give up and just resort to guides anyways. I usually don't think it's a big deal, but the manner in which Super Paper Mario forced me to was of utmost irritation. I'd glace at one every now and then... like on Chapter 2 when you are forced to grind an insane amount of money by randomly hitting a block repeatedly or running in a hamster wheel (I'm not making this up... I actually just held the right direction on the D-pad and browsed the internet for a good while). But the breaking point was around half way through the game in Chapter 5.

There was a town-ish kind of place that was attacked by some bad guys. And it's up to you to go save them. Everyone in town has locked their doors and refuse to come out till after you've dealt with them. So off into the level we go. So I explore the whole level three times (2D, 3D, and looking for invisible stuff) only to be completely stumped. At the end of the map is nothing but three spent coin blocks... you know, the empty brown ones. I had no idea what to do, so after 30 minutes of searching, I gave up and went back to town to save. All the sudden, the townsfolk were out and about like nothing happened. Weird, I guess. So I talk to them. After finding a random NPC, he tells me that I need to hit the three blocks at the end in an certain order. Okay, a little messed up, but whatever. I do that and progress through the level... when all the sudden, I ran into another set of three blocks. I tell myself, "screw this, there are only so many combinations... I can find it" So I took the time and hit all three blocks in all possible combinations. Nothing. So I go back to that random NPC and ask him. He tells me that he'll let me know the code but I have to beg him for it. And then a text input screen pops up.

...

I wish I were kidding.

So I went through the RPG Maker 1 style GUI system and input "please" and hit done. He tells me I'm not begging right and it throws me back to the text input screen. ¬_¬ f*ck you game. So I try different version of please: "please" "Please" "PLEASE" and then all three again with exclamation marks. And every time he tells me I'm not begging him right. Well screw this. I'm going to back out and save. I'm no longer in the mood to play. I'll look up what I need to do online later. So I back out of the text input screen and.... the dude tells me that I'm not begging right again and puts me back in the text input screen.

I CAN'T BACK OUT!

So I am forced to shut off the game... without being able to save because they wouldn't let me get out of the script for that asshole wanting me to beg him. NERD RAGE! So I looked it up online... and this is what I'm told:

Quote:
You'll soon reach another set of three blocks. By going back and begging (and I
truly mean BEGGING - you have to say PLEASE, and actually spell it out, about
5 times) the man on the platform to give you this order, he'll give it to you.
It's a good thing I still have it written down, so you don't have to go
anywhere. Hit the blocks in this order.

M = Middle
L = Left
R = Right

M, R, L, L, R, M, R, L, R, R, M, R, R, L, M, M, L, L, L, R, L, L, L, M, M

Keep in mind it only counts as hitting the block if it bounces. That means a
clunk of the block and keeping it immobile means you didn't ACTUALLY hit it.

The f*ck?! 5 times? 5 TIMES?! I might have figured it out after I tried the all caps version if he said "Hey, keep that up" instead of "You are begging wrong" again. But NOOOOOOOO. And what the hell!? Why is the code 25 digits long! It's bad enough they make it to where you won't figure it out... but they also make it to where you can't memorize it either. So it's either read directly from a FAQ or write it down.

And that's how I had to resort to the FAQ. After that point I read one the rest of the game (I should have just turned off the console then and there and not finished) because I wasn't about to be made a fool of like that again.

And there are a lot of questionable things scattered all through the game like this. I mean, there are parts of the game that have a certain charm to it... like the built in dating sim, or the old Dragon Quest style turn based RPG boss fight. But it just doesn't make up for all the bullsh*t you have to put up with in the game. A lot of the things you have to do are very Dragon Quest fetch style and, as mentioned before, just artificially lengthens the gameplay. As I sit here now with the "THE END" screen on my TV, I don't feel a sense of completion... only remorse for having played it.

This game is horrible. Please just stick to the RPG based Paper Mario titles.

You've got to be kidding. It's Luigi... mutated into some kind of machine... merged with that Demento guy. It was the most abstract and awkward final boss fight I think I ever put myself through. I guess the actually fighting was fun, but the setup for the actual fight was just retarded.
