My 5-year-old cousin just reached the halfway mark in Mario RPG (if she's not asking to play Mario Kart Double Dash, she's asking to play it), and I'm wondering if kids are as succeptable to prefering high-end games as "older kids" do. You know, 2D game consoles vs 3D game consoles.

That depends on what type of eye candy do you mean. Things like mario and ff series are good for eye candy.

I think younger kids are open to the old-school games more than older kids.

When you get older, you feel the need to conform with the crowd.

I think its about the same, i would think that younger kids would like the newest games better then the older 2D games, since thats what they've grown up around.
