Now that I've had my new computer for a while, it was time to order a capture device. I wasn't sure where to place this post, so I decided on the video games section, obviously.

I have no idea if it will work with my headset, allowing me to add commentary to videos. I'm not sure if it will record great footage or not. All I do know is that it records in HD at 60fps. I'll be able to hookup using AV, Component, as well as HDMI video.

If all goes well, I will be rebooting my YouTube Channel (Yesterday's Moose Productions). Naturally it will be focused on Let's Plays, or at least gaming.

At some point I may create a Patreon account, or just open suggestions. I've created an Excel spreadsheet containing a list of all the games and collections which I plan to share online somehow. Google Docs/Sheets?

I'll be making some basic recordings and uploading them to start with and go from there. My first idea was to upload RPG Maker 2 footage of the my own game, maybe some explanation of scripting videos, and possibly some RPG Maker 1 stuff.

Once I've got everything set up, I'll post again with an update of what I can make. I really hope this all works out and that I can make videos people will enjoy.

It seems I cannot record audio from my headset, nor can I edit the video.

Any suggestions for recording audio while playing?

The capture device has inputs for stereo L/R only, would a microphone and splitter work?

As for video editing, looks like I'll have to shop around.

Well, I've rigged a very roundabout way of recording audio and downloaded a free editing software. The audio sounds like crap, but it seems to be working. I could still use some help getting this set up though.

Hmm... have you tried recording your commentary with Audacity?

And perhaps you could use xsplit to record your Game Video & Audio.

That's my setup, however I have a USB mic (Blue Yeti), which has it's own seperate input.

Before using Xsplit, I used Audacity to record my commentary, and then put the commentary and game footage together in a video editor. To ensure your editing is synced properly, I'd start all your recordings with some sort of syncing test, pointing out when you move the cursor or select an option.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure the headset I'm using is causing the audio to be such horrible quality. That being said, I can try audacity and see if it's any better. Of course, I can try buying a superior microphone. As for syncing, I was able to do that with my current audio software, although it's a slight pain in the butt.

Looks like I've got everything working, it just took some tinkering with various options. Now I can either record audio during or after the videos. The first few will be synced afterwords since I made the videos first.

Thanks again for the help! :D
