I MADE IT TO KEFKA! Here's what happened:

I had to resort to Gamefaqs to find out how much HP enemies have. Which is something I completely regret not doing a long time ago. Anyway, after a few failed attempts I finally managed to beat Doom. After that, I swapped out the relics I was using to the next team who was about to fight Goddess. Apparently using those same relics made the battle end in less than 5 minutes. After the fight I used my last Tent and my last few Sleeping Bags so everyone can be at max health for the final fight. Now some difficult decisions are to be made due to the fact that I have no idea what to expect in the final fight:

Which relics to equip on everyone
What order to place each party member

That's all for now.

Time for another progress report. Here's what happened:

So I ended up getting as far as the third phase in the Kefka fight. Though the fact that the third phase uses Pearl Wind makes me think the fight will go on forever! As far as choosing my order of party members for this fight, I've tried a few combinations and haven't got the winning one yet. By the way, if any of you are curious as to which relics I'm using on each character I am attaching a file to this post.

That's all for now.

Give one of your heaviest hitters the Offering. You also missed at least 2 Genji Gloves in chests (IIRC there's one in Umaro's cave). Pairing that up with the Offering annihilates enemies.

Also give Earrings to your magic users.

As for dealing with Pearl Wind, make sure to hit the caster of it as hard as you can. Even if it continues to recover HP, it will eventually run out of MP so be sure to outlast it either way.

Time for both another progress report and a clairification. Here's what happened:

I tried a different combination of party members this time, and somehow I was able to figure out how to make Phase 3 go a bit faster. The problem from last time was I was aiming for the wrong target. So now that I know that, the next big concern was a possible instant death attack called "Calmness"

Now, Dyne was asking me in the chat yesterday how far I leveled up. Well, here's the scoop:

Terra - 56
Strago - 47
Relm - 47
Setzer - 40
Celes - 53
Locke - 50
Cyan - 50
Gogo - 50
Mog - 59
Sabin - 55
Edgar - 51
Umaro - 48

That's all for now.

The game is beatable at level 40, so your levels are fine.

Life 3 is your friend against instant death attacks. Safety Bits and Relm's Memento Ring also protect against instant death attacks.

It's generally good strategy to have at least one person devoted solely to healing/reviving while the others all attack or provide healing support if needed.

Also, give that Offering to Sabin (only if you are using Sabin's attack command most of the time and not his Blitz's). If you are using Sabin's Blitz's every turn, then put the Offering on one of your other characters with high attack power, (Edgar, Cyan, Locke, Terra, Celes) as it will allow them to use normal attacks four times per turn, effectively quadrupling their normal damage.

If you had managed to get any of the Genji Gloves in the game, combining that with the Offering is a super overpowered combination, as it allows a character to attack 8 times every turn.

A cheap way around it is to give a character with Ultima the Gem Box relic and dual cast Ultima and then just pass your turn to Gogo and mime it for free until everything dies. Heal as needed, re-cast with the Gem Box character, and continue miming.

Time for another progress report. Here's what happened:

I finally managed to figured out a good starting team for the final fight. (Mog, Terra, Celes, and Sabin) With this team, I died less frequently during the first three phases. Now as I managed to reach the final phase, I expected some brutal magic attacks and they happened. One of which knocks everyone down to 1 HP (which reminds me of the first Zeal fight in Chrono Trigger). Now I got two objectives for the next time I do the final phase: Finding a weakness on Kefka and determining which party members to have on standby in the event that I lose anyone from my starting team.

That's all for now.

He will always use that attack first thing. If you have a Megalixir, that counters it right away. Otherwise have someone ready to cast Cure3.

After that, the final boss is a joke even if you aren't equipped to one-shot him.

I DID IT! I FINALLY BEAT THE GAME! Here's what happened:

I've tried many different Relic combinations in hopes to finding the right one. And one thing I realized from my past few failed attempts was Phase 3 Kefka likes to get rid of Celes (who i consider my most crucial party member) with that Calmness attack. So I figured that maybe said she should be invulnerable to status ailments and it worked. Now the final phase is always about luck. The Fallen One attack I could easily bounce back from as long as I have enough time to recover, but the one attack that concerned me was Goner. Goner could've been either a lucky break or an instant KO. Luckily it was a lucky break this time. Another thing that proved to be a factor was that Celes had the Offering Relic. With all this in mind, the final Kefka phase was over in about 3 minutes. I totally did not expect it to be such a short fight. And after the fight was over, I got to see a very long ending.

Okay, so now that I beat the game, coming up will be my overall reaction of this game. In the meantime, if you haven't voted for the third installment in my "GoldGlee Plays..." series, make sure you do so. Poll closes on 11/16/14.

Congrats on beating the game. Do you still plan to LP it next year?

Okay, everyone. Time for my overall reaction to this game.

So compared to Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger, I found this to be a rather interesting challenge. Basically this is one game that left me guessing as to where to go because I don't remember seeing any hints in the dialogue about that. And for those who were able to navigate your way through the game without the help of a map or walkthrough, I applaud you for that.

One thing I liked about this game a lot was the chocobo rides. If only we could ride them for the entire game. That'd be something.

Another interesting tactic was the fact that you don't see random battles coming before you enter them. So basically, a random battle could happen ANYTIME. Up until the end of the game, I wasn't really concerned about being underlevel for a battle. Hopefully, when I LP the game, being underlevel will not become a concern.

Now my final thoughts: If I was to rate this game on a scale of 1-10, I'd probably give it an 8. It had a great storyline, a great cast of characters, and a whole bunch of other great stuff as well.

Be on the lookout for my upcoming LP of this game which starts January 1, 2015!
