Normally I would put this in the random gaming progress thread, but I also have a question to go along with the report on where I am in Final Fantasy VIII right now, a question that started burning on my mind last night ->

... Has there been ANYONE here who has been able to beat the boss at the end of the level where you are trying to stop Galbadian missiles from launching at the Garden in just 10 minutes, you know, where you have to escape the base before it explodes? I try it just once every time I play through FF8, and I've always failed. There's not exactly a reward for it, I know, other than an increase in your SeeD rank by 1 (which you can just take one written test and pass it by trial and error in less than five minutes to achieve the same), but something about the challenge just nags at me to try it every time. But then I fail once and I'm like, whatever, who cares. So it doesn't exactly have the siren call to it like my self-imposed handicaps playing through survival horror games does, I suppose (remember, I was the guy who just had to play through invisible enemy mode without saving in Resident Evil).


So, yeah, just wondering if anyone's escaped the missile base in the 10 min. time limit.


That's where I'm at right now in FF8, anyway; watching an 18 year-old girl who carries a whip blatantly suggest we just destroy a delicate piece of machinery to stop it from launching ICBM's, and then a 16 year-old girl with Patty Duke hair complain about how the military garb she was wearing itched a lot just before she engages three grown men trained as professional soldiers in battle. ..... If it wasn't happening in a JRPG, it would all sound rather silly, wouldn't it?

I have succeeded that, once. It was so frustrating, that once I did manage it, I haven't bothered trying again.

Same here. I wish I remembered how we did it... that was like, back when the game first came out and I was playing it couch co-op with a neighbor. It probably involved tender loving amounts of grinding, if I had to guess.:X
