Mega Man 8-bit Death Match!!!!

cutmanmike wrote:
Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch is a new multiplayer mod that aims to put Doom and Megaman into a blender and spew out a fun new way to blast your buddies online. Ive always wanted to make a Megaman themed wad, and since my experimental multiplayer wad GVH wasnt a complete flop, I decided to make it deathmatch based. The 8-bit style inspired by Kinsie was perfect for this, as it represents the time when I feel Megaman was in full fruition: on the NES.

Holy crap, that looks amazing. This is definately getting an online thread in Mag Online whenever it's released.

Added a new video that hit youtube just two days ago. Also renamed the thread to its full name.

So, I've been looking around a bit. Apparently there was an alpha release version that was taken down. I was trying to find it elsewhere, but it looks like we may just have to wait till beta.

Neat as it looks, though, can you imagine those graphics in fullscreen? *blinded*

Bad news guys.
Quote:
FAQ
...

Can I play this on other Doom ports (PSP homebrew etc)?

Nope. As I said above, this is made in Skulltag which uses a ton of brand new features that aren’t available in other Doom ports. Because Skulltag is closed source, there’s no chance of playing this on something such as your PSP. Skulltag is currently available for Windows and Linux only.

...

No PSP playing since it is using Skulltag. We of course can still play this game when it releases, just sadly with a little less win in my eyes.

Well, that's only bad news for like... three of us here at the Mag. Everyone else doesn't even have access to a PSP.

I don't know why not, I have at least 3 of them, they are way better than the 50 variations the DS has, I mean seriously, they just keep going from bigger to smaller to bigger again, maybe one day mankind will realize its still the same damn system and stop buying them.

Off topic:
You won't hear any arguments from me. The games, remakes, and homebrew programs you can run on a PSP is just amazing, while the DS is just.... pretty good. Though the 3DS is looking a little better in the remake department. Starfox 64 and OoT are definitely a draw (unlike the THREEE DEEE. Gimmicky Nintendo is Gimmicky). But homebrew on the DS has always been rather weak. I wish people were as excited about the PSP as they are now about the damn 3DS.

On topic:
It's probably not even all that bad of thing that MM8BDM isn't on PSP. That us unless it can connect with other players playing on PC. Then it would be all glorious. But as it stands, I doubt it and would play the PC version more than the PSP version anyways.

So I've been playing the single player mode and I'm really digging it. It took me a while to get a control scheme working... but after you get your keys the way you want, it feels great. The HUB world is really impressive with several options and characters. It is hard as nails though. It took me forever just to beat the first mission. I'll be looking forward to playing online with you guys if ya'll are interested.

I know I shouldn't double post, but I genuinely thing this really needs to be pointed out. The single player campaign is absolutely amazing. The mission select screen has 5 empty spaces and one open one (the first one). The game says it auto-saved, but after clearing one, it didn't ever save. I thought this was weird. After the sixth misson, it ended being taken to another level. It was a Dr. Wily based level... then another... then an actual boss fight (no AI bots or anything, but a serious one-on-one boss fight with something awesome). Then you go back to the HUB world (which, btw is also very awesome). I went to go back to the mission screen to see all the maps I unlocked and they all said that they were still locked.

Then I looked a bit closer. The second one was unlocked but nothing else. Each mission is a collection of a bunch of missions... and, in fact, are themed after each Megaman. I just didn't notice before, but the first mission is all the Robot Masters from Megaman 1. And the second mission is all of the Robot Masters of Megaman 2. You play through all 6 NES Megaman titles. That's a crap load of maps. I haven't even tried online yet. And there's a crap ton of modes too. CTF should be awesome.

I only messed around in the HUB World for a while, but after hearing what you just said, I seriously look forward to actually playing it. Gonna be a couple days before I play much of anything though.

Let me know what you think. Also, your link is to an older version. The newer version has a good number of changes as well as an old NES style intro.

Link: http://www.filefront.com/17575686/MM8BDM-v1c.zip

Anyways, just for a little help, the only controls I changed were this:

Arrows to WASD
Item usage from Enter to Right Click
Crouch to Shift
Jump is Space

I left everything else default and it felt smooth as silk.
