A while back a few of these things were made by Sarah's Knight and Ixzion, and I figured I'd make one for myself. The difference however, between mine and theirs is (A) mine is only ten songs, not 100, and (B) I'm only putting one song per game series on the list (Meaning, there is only one Final Fantasy song on the list :(). Because of that second rule, it's possible that this could be a "which game series has the best music overall" contest, though I'm to try to not do that. Anyway, below I'll post what songs they are, the actual songs, and a reason for why I picked each one.

As a note, most of these are from RPGs because of how much I love the genre.

Number 10: Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber - Diana

The Ogre Battle series has a lot of great music, and most of it is reused in all of the games in the series. This song however, is the song that sticks out the most when I think of the Ogre Battle series, the theme song of the heros from Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, as heard in Ogre Battle 64.

Number 9: Shadow of the Colossus - Counterattack

The entire Shadow of the Colossus OST is amazing, and if you have never played this game or heard the soundtrack, shame on you. Anyway, all of the songs in the game are epic, but this one I felt was the one that seemed the most epic of them all.

Number 8: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Dark World

The greatest Zelda song ever to be created, hands down. Often times, I'll load a save on LttP, and just stand on top of Ganon's pyramid and listen to this song. The only Zelda song to come close in epicness to this song is the Hyrule Castle theme from the same game.

Number 7: Secret of Mana - Meridian Dance

One of the great things about the Secrect of Mana soundtrack was that tended to go a little ways away from the traditional orchestral style music found in most RPGs, and instead went rock sounding music in some cases, which is seen in this song, which is one of the best final boss themes I've ever heard.

Number 6: Castlevania: Chi no Rondo - Bloody Tears

Most Castlevania fans can agree that Bloody Tears is the best Castlevania song there is, (Just ask Ixzion, who I hear has a massive collection of Bloody Tears remixes) but because of how large the series is, and how many times the song is reused in each game it was hard to pick my faveorite version of this song. In the end, it came down to this one though, because it represents everything I think the song should be.

Number 5: Mother 3 - 16 Melodies

A truly great song to end a truly great series. The song 8 Melodies was one of the main theme songs of Mother (Earthbound Zero) and Mother 2 (Earthbound), but the version that was played in this game was amazing. Shigesato Itoi was right when he said players would cry while playing this game, and this song may have well been the cause of it.

Number 4: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Main Theme

The Metal Gear Solid series, while overly complicated storywise, (Nano-machines anyone?) has some great music, done by Harry Gregson-Williams (He also did the music for the The Chronicles of Narnia movies). The theme song though, is what I would say, the best song in the series. It effectlively portrays American patriotism, as well as the sci-fi premise of the series.

Number 3: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - Final Battle

This song is definitely not what I expected to hear as a final battle theme in a Mario game. I find it a little hard to believe that this song is actually a Mario song, and not a Final Fantasy song. There is really nothing else to say about this song besides that it's awesome, however, not the most awesome song there is.

Number 2: Final Fantasy VI - Dancing Mad

In the Final Fantasy series, this song pretty much sums it up for me. Being over 17 minutes long, and spanning across four stages, this song really is an epic. Though it's really good, I had a lot of trouble deciding whether to put this song on the list or the Final Fantasy Main Theme that's been used in pretty much every Final Fantasy game to date (Though FFXIII didn't have it...)

Number 1: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals - For the Savior

Yeah, I'm a sucker for pretty much anything that has to do with Lufia, but I truly believe this song to be the best song I've ever heard in a video game. It perfectly captures the tension and rapid pace of the ending of the game, but unless you have played the game, you probably don't understand.

So, there it is... Let the disagreement begin!

Co-signed for some Bloody Tears, MGS2, Mother 3 ending and For the Savior.

Lufia II does have some of the best music to ever grace a video game.

This is also true.

I would never have imagined a Mother game's music to be that good. ... Now I must play it.
