Seeing as the year 2009 is coming to a close, I can't help but look back and admit that we had a very fine year as far as games go. Same thing for the past almost 3 years. And as a tribute to this being a wonderful time to be a gamer, I want you to pick out the games that released THIS year that you enjoyed. Top game, top 3, top 5, top 10, whatever you want.

The categories are:

Downloadable game: Games that were released as DLC. This is pretty much anything from Wii Ware, Playstation Network, or Xbox Live Arcade.

Portable games: Anything that you can take with you. This mainly means PSP or DS, but if you were into iPhone or other cellphone games, it's all good.

Current gen: I was thinking about doing indivdual platforms (Wii, Xbox, Ps3, PC) but with so many non-exclusive games, it would just be best to pick whichever games you liked reguardless of console.

Best game of '09: What you enjoyed this year more than anything else.

Though I only have one PSN game, it was by far the best... And I didn't even get to play it with anyone I knew. I can only imagine how epic this would be if everyone here had a PS3 and joined in. And yes, Ix... Turtles in Time is on here. For it's price, it was a good game.

What really saddens me is that I've still not played a good few games that have been released this year that would have been sure to hit my list. Best game of '09:
Resident Evil 5

I have always been a huge RE fan. But they REALLY brought it this time around. Yes yes, I know that they kind of switched genres. It used to be survival horror, and now it's more action-y... but you have to admit that it's still a horribly fun game. Specially with co-op. The replay value of this game is amazing as I've played through it time and time again. And with the DLC missions coming next year, I'm excited to get back into the game. There were a lot of good games this year, and picking just one was slightly painful, but this is what I'm going with.

Best of '09
This is tough. It is a struggle between 'Splosion Man, SO:SE, and Borderlands. All amazing in their own ways.
Based on hours played, it would be SO:SE. Based on originality and straight fun, 'Splosion Man. As I typed this I was planning on Borderlands winning it out but screw it.

I mostly play older titles, so I can only say I played two 2009 titles; Metroid Prime Trilogy and Rune Factory Frontier. To that, Metroid Prime Trilogy gets my nod.

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Bubble Bobble Plus!
Excitebike: World Rally
Wii Fit Plus

That's it, huh? Not the best year of gaming for me, that's for sure.

Wii Fit Plus was a surprise item under the tree for me this year, and I haven't tried it out, yet.

Bubble Bobble Plus! I'm sure I'll like, and tried out a little. I intended to wait to play for an LP, but I don't think I'll be LPing it. So I gotta get to it sometime.

Excitebike: World Rally quickly lost my interest after I got an S-Rank in all courses and realized that all that was left was online with random people.

And Batman: Arkham Asylum, while decent, also failed to keep my interest.




Whoa... we got Dragon Quest 5, already? That certainly flew under the radar. Oh well, it probably wouldn't have kept my interest, either. Stupid level grinding. Ooh, Xbox Live Arcade has a Lode Runner remake. That's gonna be a must-have for me.

Downloadable game: I don't do a whole lot of DLC, so bear with me on this.

3: Magic the Gathering

Plants Vs. Zombies was an incredibly well done game so it takes the gold here. I would like to say that Pokemon Rumble, while not being that great of a game, is a whole lot of fun with friends.


Portable games: Only gonna do top 3's cause, there are a loooooooottt.

2: Yggrda Union
3: Crisis Core

Dissidia takes it home for me here...just a fan boys dream... I can only hope they continue this and just extend the cast. Special props to Yggrda and Crisis both, because they were both fantastic games.


Current gen: Hmmmmm.....

2: League of Legends
3: Modern Warfare 2
4: Borderlands

Yeah...HoN and LoL both win out at the top, but MW2 and Borderlands were both incredible games.


Best game of '09: I'm torn between HoN, LoL, and Dissidia. HoN is a replica of DotA, a game I've known and loved for years. Dissidia was just fantastic. And LoL is another dota replica, but with more diversity.

Batman was the biggest surprise of 09 for me, RE5 was quite good but not as good as RE4, and Plants vs. Zombies was quite groovy. But for the sheer spectacle of it, I'm going to give it to Uncharted 2.
