Quote:
Tomb Raider publisher Eidos will officially become part of Square Enix in May, as shareholders cast an overwhelming majority of votes in favor of the propsed takeover.

Eidos held their shareholders meeting yesterday, during which a vote was held to determine if the Square Enix takeover bid would be approved, with 85% percent of the company's stock represented in the voted. After an overwhelming majority voted in favor of the takeover, an Emergency General Meeting was held, during which the motion to accept the acquisition was approved.

So what happens now? According to the plan laid out by Eidos management, Eidos stock is delisted on April 21st, and by May 6th, everything Eidos belongs to Square Enix. That's when we start calling them Squidix.

That's crazy, man. Lara Croft in FFXII confirmed.

I think I like Squenidos better than Squidix. Either way, I don't quite understand why Squeenix think they need Eidos. Their games aren't even of the same genre... not that it really matter to that great of degree, but it does raise the question "why?"

I see it as a move to put more money into eidos games and try to take some of EA's share of the market.

Square Enix is trying to expand into different genres, and this is a great way to do it.

Didn't Eidos also play a part in porting FF7 and FF8 to PC?

Either way, other Squenix takeovers I've seen as a bad thing, 'cause that meant franchises may become worse. But in this case, isn't Tomb Raider kinda not good right now? Maybe this'll be an improvement.

Squeenix is a waste anyway. They haven't made many good games since FF9.

I completely disagree. They haven't made a bad Final Fantasy yet. Granted, they haven't been as good as they have been in the past... but they are still at least GOOD RPGs.

They sure as heck aren't Final Fantasy anymore, though...

Again, I disagree. Every single game Final Fantasy has tried something new. No two FF titles share anything other than basic RPG elements found in all RPGs. Of course there's always going to be a Cid too... and summons of some sort, and chocobos, but other than that there's hardly a scale to go by to call it a Final Fantasy.

But here's the thing: All the best ideas to be used in a Final Fantasy might have already been thought of. So doing something new every single time will ultimately not be such a good idea. Never the less, every game brought something new and it was good. Not great... not OMG FF7 EPIC... but good. And I still consider Final Fantasy just as much of a series now as they were then.

But I do wish they'd take it back to their roots. Maybe even re-use some old game elements again. I'd love to see another Materia based FF. Or job class system again.

I just miss the world maps and the battling in battle maps with opposing sides on oppisite sides of the arena.

Now that's something I can agree with. And actually, I wish they'd bring back random encounters too. I know most people gripe about that kind of things these days, but whatever... I'm a classic kind of guy.

If you want to point a finger at the most "not final fantasy" final fantasy, get your fingers warmed up to FF11. 12 was FF and it was good.

It was good, but it wasn't Final Fantasy. It was basically an offline version of 11.

I stopped caring about Final Fantasy around the time they decided to treat character design as a joke. That was from FF7 on, more or less.

Doesn't mean I didn't thoroughly enjoy FFX's and FFXII's gameplay. It's only that the characters and plot were utterly ridiculous.

I detested FF12 with every particle in my body.

Actually, I swore off anything Square has done since FF9.

A square version of Lara Croft just scares me.
