I was thinking about something the other day. I've been listening to the DK2 soudtrack (because it is made of nothing short of win) and started thinking about the series in general. Everyone seems to like DK1... everyone seems to love DK2... and everyone either doesn't like or shows a heaping helping of apathy towards DK3. And most the time, the only thing people say is, "Because Kiddy Kong sucks."

You know, that's kind of a crappy reason not to like the game. And it's because of that, that I realize that I really do like DK3. The world map has the most free exploration, specially with vehicles. Also getting the 100 something percent in 3 was the most fun out of all three games. You had to do much more for it and it was fun (collecting item and coins, freeing banana birds, ect). And some of the level design was just really interesting and pushed the envelope from the previous games. One example is the vertically scrolling tree levels where you are chased by a giant tree saw teh whole way. Also, I thought ALL the bosses in the game were very interesting, and I enjoyed fighting them all.

I could go on much longer on why I think that DK3 sould be well accepted with the other two, but I think I'll save that for if this topic takes off. Hopefully, I'm mistaken, and everyone at least likes the game.

I like the game and I listen to it's soundtrack more than DK2 and DK1.

I couldn't help but find it underwhelming. It does have great level design and Kiddy isn't a dealbreaker, but actually finding all the bonus barrels and such was too difficult for me, and although I loved the elephant running bonus level, I HATED the rocket maze one....it was more level memorization than skill, and even then it required a good chunk of luck. And even when you get past that level, you get a disappointing K.Rool battle.

I'll take DKC2 any day.

I was also underwhelmed. The game was thankfully still difficult, but... I dunno. I think part of the problem is the music. Sounds nice, sure, but it seemed too mellow throughout. Including the boss music. What kind of boss music is mellow? Now, music isn't the only problem I had with the game. But I'm not sure what else there was. I just know that, while I did find the secret stuff along the way, once I reached the first ending, I didn't feel like continuing onward.

Actually, I take back what I said about the difficulty. While it's a tougher game than the first DKC, I didn't find the game difficult until the last world. Well, the bosses also gave me a bit of trouble, but I was paying too much attention to the underwhelming music during them. (Seriously, I didn't get the sense of OMG BOSS BATTLE that I would get from more frantic themes.)
