Well, if you remember in Mario Kart 64, there's a track in Bowser's Castle. Around the area of thwomps, you'll see a thwomp in a jail sell. Meet Marty.

It's been floating around that Marty (I have no idea where his name came from) is an unlockable character in Mario Kart 64. But it's extremely hard to do.

You need to select Bowser, go to Bower's Castle on time trial and do many things. First, you need to navigate the track backwards. Why this is so hard is because a flight of 7 stairs. You have to use your 3 mushroom to get up there... which (as proven in many youtube videos) is damn near impossible. Then after that, you have to drive around the Bowser statue clockwise 3 times. When you go back to Marty's sell, you should hear a 1-up sound and the bars should rise.

Now, I've seen videos claiming it was possible... and many more saying it's not. Well, I was totally aginst it till this video:

It would be hard to fake those bars and sound effects. But then look at the date the video was posted. April first? Hmmm...

Still there are no videos of anyone driving as Marty. And there's also hacks on roms of people driving into his sell and nothing happening (or in some verisons, fall through the floor into a pool of lava).

Even if it's fake, there's allot of talk about it within the mario kart community. There are even people trying to do it in Mario Kart Wii.

Interesting indeed. I've never heard of that before.

Looks fake to me. You can't deny that he did make it through the course backwards, but the 1-up sound and the cage opening didn't sound or look completely genuine to me. The 1-up could've been played from a Game Boy nearby. And the bars opening seemed rather choppy. And how convenient that the cage didn't open until after he stopped to watch it. And if this were real, he'd show off the playable Thwomp as well.
