If you're a N64 nut like me, you wear down those control sticks like nothing else. Annoyed with this problem, I bought several new sticks to replace the old ones. I was surprised to learn, however, that the new sticks made varied differences in the games I played, listed below

1080- A noticable change in control. Can now turn and control player better than before.

Banjo K/Tooie- Banjo still moves too slow. Otherwise no big changes.

F-Zero X- No big changes here either.

Goemon's Great Adventure- Slight difference.

Hybrid Heaven- Huge difference. I can now run at full speed no problem, whereas I could barely run before. Wonderful.

Mario Tennis- I swear, I'm playing better since I put these new sticks in.

Mischief Makers- No noticable difference.

Perfect Dark- Works almost too well. I'm slipping and going this way and that. Going to take a while to get used to it.

Pilotwings64- Works both better and worse. Gyrocopter is more difficult, while Hang Glider is better.

Snowboard Kids- No difference. Nothing more to say, really.

Super Smash Bros- Doesn't work as well as I liked. The control is still loose and difficult to get smashes or fast movement 100% like Melee or Brawl.

Star Fox 64- Works too well. I overshoot my mark, and instead of making a perfect turn, I often crash into buildings. Not fun on Expert mode.

Zelda- Much better. Can now run forward without fatigue to thumb.

That's all for now.

Yes, the N64 stick definately sucked. Games like Paper Mario and Yoshi's Story required you to pretty much jam the stick to the side if you wanted to move at a decent pace. It was so much better on the Virtual Console. Yay, GameCube stick!
