I've never actually seen a vending machine with brail on it. must be an american thing. that would figure.

well... you could ask if you knew someone was there. but as you're blind, that might be a problem.


though i suspect... most blind people do have some vestigal sight, probably enough that they could identify the bars or whatever in the machine. But not the letters and numbers. Though that would only make sense if it was possible for them to know which letters correspond with which products.

to find the right buttons, cus the first time you ask you memorize the number for that item then when you are there alone you can find the right buttons for the same item. or for blind kids who want to do it themselves. you know how kids are.

Going with the brail on an ATM I'm still curious as to how that will help someone since they still can't read the screen, and last I checked they don't have brail for electronic screens. I think they just put the brail on them to act like they are caring, even though blind people are still pretty screwed on those things.

Of course this reflects general interface problems with many of our electronic devices, as hardly any of them are built for people with any kind of sensory impairment, except maybe deafness. But then again if you don't have a problem you usually don't think about it when designing an interface.

Yey for UI design class.

Oh, and actually the biggest impairment most interfaces don't account for is color blindness, which affects a decent amount of the population.
