How do you say it?
Gif (with a "g" sound) 55%  55%  [ 6 ]
Gif (with a "j" sound) 45%  45%  [ 5 ]

In portuguese (and perhaps other languages derived from latin), a G in front of an E or I is pronounced 'j'.

Therefore, in portuguese the correct thing would be 'jif'. But I like 'gif' much much better.


Spanish is another example of that. But I say Gif the way I say Gi in Giraffe.
Actually, I never thought about it until now. .Gif is not a word I use to say out loud at all.

That is the most valid "jif" post to date. zomg.

But yeah, I find myself watching alot of subtitled anime, only to not be able to say characters names because I've just been reading it... and never saying it outloud.

I've always called them "jif" files. It doesn't sound any more odd than "gif", but I'm used to calling them "jifs".

My hubby always calls them "Jifs" Being I'm not to good of a speller I go by how others say things. He told me that its a JIF. So thats how I say it too.

To be honest... I started off saying .jif... for what reason, I don't know. Common sense doesn't strike me till much later down the road... Meh, oh well... i'm .gif now... FTW!
