I never actually knew what web cookies did. I just knew they were... well... there.

I guess a good example would be.... hmmm

If you log into your email account and you tell it to remember your user name... it stores a cookie on your computer so the next time you visit the site, the server of that site will search for cookies. When it sees it, it will load the data for that site... being your user name.

Guess that's as simple as I can get it.
