Goten posted this in respone to something I posted in an Announcements topic.



At first I was like, what? And I figured she would not say that without good reason so I asked Lone today why she said that and he explained it this way:

The Spam Hammer is killing the rest of the forum because it is mostly spam places where the closer knit community is grown and so when new members come along they see the Spam Hammer and maybe try to post but they do not feel like they really belong so they go away and don't post anywhere else either because they figure that they will not belong in the other parts of the forum either.

So technically this is like the Spam Hammer is losing the board members and since the most regular posters in here amount to like... four people it is a relatively useless forum. I think we would miss the Spam Hammer if it was deleted but Regal is into RPG Maker and games so he can still post in the other forums quite a bit, Taizon does RPG Maker tutorials and he has his own studio, Chrssy is a staff member - the board's Designer and posts in Video Games and Creativity and has a Lufia character so it is not like deleting the Hammer will lose those members and as for me I am most likely the absolute most useless member on the entire board. I have used RPG Maker once in my entire life, a life that has been completely console-free as my mom always viewed them as a waste of time and money. If I could record stuff I could post more in Creativity and stuff anyway. So deleting the Spam Hammer WILL NOT lose the board any members though it would lose some members a lot of post count but the only place post count has ever mattered is in the Spam Hammer.

It is about doing what is best for the board as a whole, not letting personal stuff get in the way of making decisions *cough*Lone*cough* (Let's just say he likes the spam). There was a time when many more members posted in the Spam Hammer and Ixzion decided to archive 20 pages of spam and it was all good and fun but that has kind of died now that the Mag has become more popular and is really being used for what it is supposed to be used for - RPG Maker! Everything has it's good time and everything eventually dies - even forums.

Deleting it is the quickest and simplest option to solve the issue, but apparantly Lone has decided to fight with his life and his position to save this forum >___> I don't really know much about the other staff but I am assuming that they are mostly more on the "Delete it" side. Maybe it would be better to just lock the whole thing and save it for way down the road when maybe it's time will come again? Or maybe it would be better to simply click "Delete" I am not a staff member I do not have to think of these things. Oh, what a grand life.

My personal thoughts after having it explained are that I agree it should be deleted/locked. It's about the forum as a whole, not just the random fun we have in here.

I may or may not get totally IP banned or warned or flamed or something for this because I'm not sure if it was supposed/allowed to be know outside of the staff... but the way I figure it Goten made that post and brought it into the open so don't get mad at me, get mad at her. I shift the blame, oh noes!!! *hides*

What do the rest of the people who post in here... like... all three of you... think on this one?

I think it would be a shame to lose the hammer, as far as i'm concerned its one of the things that makes the rpgm forums what they are.

On the other hand, it does kind've choke the forums a little, if only because there are so many threads and it takes so long to reply to them, i feel i don't have time for the other forums.

Maybe it would be a good idea to close off many of the topics in the Spam Hammer. Perhaps if these topics were moved into the archives or something, and four or five threads were left, with no option to make new threads, then the spam hammer would become a little more controlled and a little less disproportionate. The threads that were left could maybe be the decision of a vote.

I don't really want to lose everything, but i think that the Hammer is a little out of control.

Thats my opinion, for what its worth.

well if deleteing the spam forum...the whole board will lose a great amount of posts. which will make us look a little...smaller and not so active.


anyway. i try to post in teh other forums but sometimes...theres not so great topics that can be worth replying to =\ to me that is.... i only come straight to the spam hammer to see what crazy weird odd things have been posted without having to be serious or strict...

but i think this board is best for us "other" ppl who are not so much into RPGmaker or have no clue whats it about but just like to post and talk to other ppl without getting scolded at.

i think we just a more variety of ppl to join this forum who are into everything...and not just rpg maker. even tho this forum IS about that. im not saying we need more ppl to turn away from the game but to be fun and selective.

anyway...cant think of anything to post... *straps self to spam hammer board and posts stick it notes on self saying " LEAVE THE SPAMMERS ALONE" and "GET BACK OR ILL EAT YOU" and " PH33R TEH SNOWM3N"

i just thought, if theres a problem with newbies being threatened by out overwheming incredibleness (although when i first came here i wasn't at all threatened or overwhelmed), then the best way to fix that would be by making this site more accessible to newbies.

actually i ahve an idea..i think that this forum should kinda be like the mag...have to have a certain amount of posts if u want in here >.> then u can spam and not be so threatened all u want!

yea. then it'll kinda keep the newbs out for abit till they post around in other forums..and hear the good,bad and the ugly stories that are in here and make them interested!

uhuh. Also its a really worthwhile thing to post for. Although you may get some spammers on the other forums who want to see whats inside the hammer....

That might be a good idea. Rest assured, Spam Hammer isn't going anywhere. However, we really need to push our other forums.

Most of our current active members spend a majority of their time in SH, but it makes our other forums look weak. We need everyone's help to start pushing our forums like Chat, VG, and Creativity.

We've had dozens of new registers, but hardly any new posters. It needs to change. You can start today, if you wish!

This is just opinion talking but the other forums ARE kind of weak (thus needing to push them) ... and i think it could be a lot because of what Chrssy said about this one taking up so much of time that we don't have any time for the other forums though I do read all the other forums on the board but don't post too much in the rpg stuff because my posts in there are totally invalid and in chat there is not much in the way of "disscussion" type topics cus there just isn't anything to keep them going.

Serously though, I have a better Idea: Repurpose it. Figure out what most of the threads are about and make that the new focus of the forums, no spam allowed.

You could "break up the band" so to speak. I always looked at the chat forum as the place to disscuss site related busness, and the RPGMaker Main as the place to talk about RM. The Spam Hammer realy is analogous to the Pavilions Free Forum. And the free forum serves a very important function by allowing people to blow off steam and post whatever so that they aren't constrained by the sites narrow scope.

I also tend to think that when we moved we lost alot of inter board traffic. The Pavilion runs on vBulliten and we run on BBS. BAI, Metro, my board, and Skylers foum all run on EZboard.
I think we realy started to lose members beacause we lost all that refferal traffic.

So what I would suggest is making a couple of new forums that replace the spam hammer but take over its function, while toneing down the spam. Perhaps a "pop culture" fourm?
