last night we where talking about our games in the chat and lantis mentions his swaping system in soe. lantis system uses around 3k memory and about 60 pages to operate. i thought i could do it with much less so he challenged me to come out with a carbon copy of his system using less.

after an hour i pulled out a system. using 42 pages and 1900 memory. upon checking his video again i noticed that he accounted for some players who would be added in and needed to be temporarily blanked out.

this morning i loaded up my file and found the sys data corrupt because performance memory cards sucks. i spent another 45 minutes tweaking what i made and now im going to release it.

ive used about 45 pages on the main confirm switch, used 42 recyclable switches, and 3 switches specific for the party members lantis had. the space i used comes in at about 2100 mem but if he uses a space holder char as the first party member who gets swapped out, i can reduce it by perhaps 100 memory. just now thinking about what ive made i can save more space by changing whole party rather then removing and adding a character on that first character selection.

i enjoyed this challenge and hope it will free up some space in your own game so you can spiff up some other areas with the savings.

Actually, you nailed it spot on. But the thing is, when my party was only 5 of the possible 8, I had a total of 44 pages on the confirm event (including the unused page 1). Had you added the other thee party members, you would have hit 64 just like I did.

One thing you did manage to get lower is the memory size. Mine when it was 5 of the 8 was 2119. Yours is 2091. Somehow or another though, I managed one less page on the confirm event. I've got both of our menus up at the same time and I can't seem to find out where I managed to cut one.

Anyways, thanks for doing this. Maybe we can start doing things like this every now and then. Also, I recommend everyone download it and give it a look see if you want to do custom menus for yourself.

you can select all 8 members. just push up to confirm your party and your sent to the second map (map two) and you can toggle the switch to turn on the other 3 members individually and turn them off at will. everyone of those 8 chars can swap into your party, providing youve flipped the three switches on to have those 3 pop up.

also i only need one extra page per member that you dont have full access to right away. if you wanted to make a 4th member available on switch only it could cost one additional page only. a page with the character number, the switch that activates them set to off with a take over saying you cant do it. this page needs to be one of the last pages in the string.

i agree, we should host more challenges like this.

I completely overlooked the part where you can switch on and off the other three characters... which is totally my bad. Man, you nailed it. I was using switches in places when I should have been using the party condition, so I was just making things a bit more complicated for myself. Great work.

If anyone can think of custom menu challenges in the future for us to do, please post some. I'd really like to see how differently we'd tackle them.
