Figured I'd make a dedicated RPGT DS topic, rather than using my acquisitions one.

Here it is. My play-through of RPGT DS. I decided not to narrate it because, honestly, it's such a simple game that I doubt anyone would want to hear my inane comments about how you can press b or something to walk faster. Plus I'm really tired and my voice is a bit gravely right now...

Anyway, here is the link: http://thutmosesworkshop.com/blog/

I think it is pretty self explanatory, but feel free to ask any questions.

More will be posted in the future.

Below are some screen-shots.

If you are wondering about that last screenshot - the top screen during most of the time is blank, just black. When play-testing a game, however, the top screen displays debugging information, lists events, switches, etc.

That debugging information while playtesting is the most awesome idea RM has ever had.

Yeah. It's pretty neat walking around and watching the white text scroll on the top screen - it's amazing how much stuff is going on in the background that you would never even realize without the debugger display.

But, during normal gameplay, that top screen is black most of the time (i.e. it's always black when walking around, but some stuff appears there when in battle and in certain menus). It seems like a total waste of a screen. There might be some function in the editor which allows you to place stuff on the top screen, but I don't know if that's possible yet; since it's all in Japanese, I'll have to do a lot more digging and experimentation.

See, now that was what I was afraid of. Having a Maker on the DS should have opened up a lot of very interesting and creative ways to make puzzles and interactive things. Knocking out the use of half of the screen the DS provides really turns me off to it all. But seeing that the bottom screen is the one in use, maybe there is still programmable uses for touch screen?

Thanks for the pictures, Mose. I find it interesting how much I can read of that now. :)

* Not much, but a fair bit.

The sample game showed no evidence of that, and showed very little, really. So I have no idea right now.

I wouldn't count on it. But, there could be some option like that in the eventing system. The only trouble is, since I can't understand most of it, if there are any interesting/advanced features available, I'll have a hard time figuring them out. Also, since I can't download any of the DLC, I don't have access to other games that have been made with the system.

That's what makes the sample game so disappointing - it really does a very poor job of showing off the features of RPGT DS.

I'll be posting more videos and screen shots of the editor in the coming days. Maybe I'll get lucky and stumble on something good.

I feel like I should be surprised at the lacking of these things... but for whatever reason, I'm not. That said, I'm not really holding my breath on you running across these functions. But I do, however, wish you the best of luck in your venture though the game.

Touch screen is really only used in the editor, and even then, you can completely ignore it and use the buttons.
