I was just reading (what else would I be doing?). After looking through various blog posts and articles, combined with what I've learned over the past couple weeks while working on the Kupid project, I have realized that it's possible to design a brain-RPG Maker interface that would allow you to play specially designed RPG Maker 1, 2, and possibly 3 games using only the power of thought.

It would work on the same principal as Kupid, except instead of a keyboard connected to the PS1 controller, there would be an EEG electrode array. The microcontroller inside the PS1 controller would process the electrical signals detected by the electrodes attached to your head into PlayStation button presses to control the RPGM game. With some creative game design and scripting, I'm sure there are all kinds of ways this could be utilized (like a two-player game where the game tries to surprise and distract you, and player with the greatest concentration wins).

This is more of a thought-experiment more so than something I am actually planning to build. But, I think that it's an interesting idea, regardless. If I ever find some cheap EEG equipment, maybe I'll give it a go - just for fun. :P

Haha wow, that sounds pretty cool, but something tells me that if this was actually a practical or good idea, game developers would already be doing this. >_>

They are:

The technology is just new and finicky, for gaming applications. But there's every reason to expect that this will be the wave of the future. I can just imagine Nintendo's next console's innovative feature being thought control. :P

The idea sounds interesting, but somehow I doubt you're going to find the requirement "for cheap" any time soon. :P

Most EEG equipment costs a couple thousand dollars. But, there are some deals to be had on ebay every now and again.

I've been using the power of thought to role play since I was 3 or 4, and the best part about it is that it's 'free'.

Who knows? The technology could go way down in price a couple years from now. I wouldn't mind having controlling RPG Maker with my brain.

As more stuff gets released, it will pop up used on ebay for cheap. Since I'm getting about a hundred PS1 controllers, I should have plenty to experiment with. :)
