Karr, I noticed some things preventing me from putting down my stamp:

Technical:
Where you have it say "85.00" in the Overall section, it needs to be edited to say "8.5".

Grammatical:
Dew Quest Reviewed in the title is kind of redundant, since we know it's a review.
On some parts of the review, you have dashes preceeding the points and not on others. Choose one format.

Otherwise, I didn't see anything.

i tend to jump around in my formats, so ill fix that.

the 8.5 thing is confusing since a percentage is actually .85, and even if you say 85 out of a hundred then the . thing is just out of place.

the titles and stuff is still very confusing. there has to be a way to make it much more clear. i had this problem when i first put some reviews up and im continuing to have it. the different titles just are not clear what is required. tell me strait what should be going in each (like an example).

The Overall score is not asking for a percentage. As it says in the Review FAQ, the percentages are turned into points. It just makes it look better.

And at least for titles, there are descriptions under each field. I'm having trouble seeing what's confusing you. Is it the Title and Database Title? The Title is just the way it looks on the review's page. The DB Title is for the database, because it doesn't know how to rearrange files and omit apostrophes.

When I start back, I'll give it a redesign.

Title: (Max: 60 characters)

The p/reviews's title, as it will appear on the created page.

(what the hell is a created page, where will it appear on the review?)

Database Title: (Max: 60 characters)

For use in the DB. Place articles last ('Darkness, The' instead of 'The Darkness').

(what is the value of this? what is its purpose, how should i make a title for this? where is this going to be found, what is it going to effect)

Article Subtitle: (Max: 70 characters)

The article's subtitle, which appears under the title.

(this is clear)

Article URL: (Max: 30 characters)

Just the name of the url. No extensions. (ex: 'RPGMM Awards 2006')

(another damn title, what should i do with this? why do i need a url title?)

you dont need so many titles. you need the title of the game, the title of your article, and thats it. the system can parse the article title and turn it into a url - who cares, thats its job, not yours to make it all up. keep it simple, keep it to the point. the system should even automatically take the games data too - why do i even have to fill it out to begin with?

maybe one of the reasons people dont like reviews is because its such a huge process?

I appreciate the feedback on this, and really, to me, this is a way simple process. But that's because I made it. If anyone remembers back on staff when we actually went into the code and edited each little piece of the html, that was a huge process (still, except for me. :p).

I will go ahead and explain all this, but I'm acknowledging here and now that this is a 3-year old system that's showing the cracks. It is a showing of my limits at the time I made this back in 06. Every system on the site is 100% coded by me.

Title
This is self-explanatory. On the page below:
http://www.rpgmmag.com/rpgm3/reviews/da ... review.php

this is "Daniel's Quest III" (it's on the line above "Written by Ixzion").

Database Title
This is not. This was a bald spot in my experience level. Today, I wouldn't even bother and would just strip out apostrophes myself via the code and rearrange them in the proper order.

The reason this came about was that I did not know how to do this automatically and thus thought it would save time to just have users put it in the correct way. Speaking about that, in 2006-08, the users were strictly staffers. That's a thought. A lot of the system requires this DB Title because it's unique for each game.

Article URL
Again, something that today I would just look at, strip out, and replace.

However, this is useful because it allows the code to create or rename (if you're editing) a file easily. The Article URL in the above link is "daniels_quest_iii_review.php". When I created it, I just put "Daniel's Quest III" and it automatically cleaned it up and added "_review.php" to it.

And finally, it's one thing to say "oh, the system should do this and that and this", and I'm not saying I don't agree with it, because I do, it's not such a simple thing. I really do have to do an amazing overhaul of this system. And then it'll be a lot easier.

I'll incorporate BB code, so you don't have to see HTML, preview image selections, the whole 9. But until then, I'm grateful for whatever level you feel like putting up with this.

that was insightful and i can understand the effort having been an early webmaster myself for a number of years. it just takes such a huge amount of time to code everything which i also did by hand. later i used a program to parse a lot of the hard coding but even that takes an immense amount of time to constantly update and stay along with mainstream web browsers. i tend to take for granted that much of whats out there is automatic.

so the second title is a database title? what does that mean since there is a url title.

i appreciate all the effort of this place, its why i choose to stay here to produce my game.

Oh, the DB title allows the system to run queries based on a common name. The Article URL is not the same thing. It's a likely-to-be unique name for the article. But again, I'll have fixes for these later.

You clicked on the review and then looked at the top left of the body of the article for the "Edit" feature?

Oh hell, I forgot about this. I was actually experimenting on this and then something happened and it went outta my head. Sorry.

Actually, on the Review Archives page, you should see an edit link beside your article name. It is NOT on the review's page.

i know where it should be but its not there. i think it has something to do with being able to vote for your own article which you shouldnt have the right to do. all past articles i can edit, this one i cannot.

Oh, now I see what happened. Your username is "Karrchaos" on the review instead of "KarrChaos". I fixed it for you. :)
