Yes, I know i post this stuff like crazy... but here it goes...
This thread is about how much damage can be done with Physical attacks and magic/skills.
Physical: If your character has 999 STR, has a 999 STR boost from a weapon, has Smash and has a 99 STR and LUCK boost and his auto-abilities are strong vs. ghost(example) and strong vs. animal, and the enemy has 0 DEF, weak to physical, and is an animal ghost...

Damage = (2097*2*1.5*1.5*1.5)-0=14155
But if battle modifiers are in effect...
Turn the 2097 into 3096, and the 0 into -999...

Damage=(3096*2*1.5*1.5*1.5)+999=21897
Not even considering a critical hit!...

Damage=(3096*2*1.5*1.5*1.5*1.5)+999=32346

Even though I'm sure no one would bother using such high numbers, this may help for Desperation attacks or double criticals and such.

Now on to magic...

Magic cannot do as much damage as physical attacks, but they can do HP/MP damage as well as hit everyone!

On to calculation...
Damage=((Magic Spell+MAG+Weapon+Accesory)*Element bonus*weak vs. magic)-Enemy MDF.
In optimal conditions...
Damage=((999+999+999+99)*1.5*1.5)+999=7965 HP/MP to all.

However, there are random generators involved in damage calculation, so it is possible to reach these numbers.

Skills-the weakest moves possible.
In optimal conditions...
Damage=(999+999)*1.5*1.5=4495 HP/MP damage to all. I'm not sure, but if critical hits apply to skills, the damage would be 6743. The flipside to this relatively low damage is that there is no defensive modifier.

Somehow I expected the potential max damage to be higher. But the only time I've seen anybody hit for even 1000 damage was a promotional video. Must be harder to allow the player to cause that much damage and make the game balanced.

In a very large Tournament-based game I intend to make, where battling not only levels you up, stats get raised based on enemies I want to get damage that high. That way, when you start to fight enemies with HP in the 10000's, you can do extreme damage to them. Of course you need to do certain achievements to come close to this amount of damage. Also, you may be right. Critical hits do around *1.5-2 damage, with the RNGs.
