This got me curious about how many active RPGMers there actually are around here. It seems like so few, but that post has me wondering otherwise. So yeah, active RPGMers. As in, are actually working on something for RPGM1/2/3/XP/VX and, you know, not just letting the tools collect dust. I wanna hear who you are.

Some of you may be surprised to hear (especially with the poor condition of my dev studio), I'm one of the active RPGM1 users.

EDIT: Oh, right. Got reminded in the chat (thanks, Duel), there's also Fighter Maker and Fighter Maker 2. Unlikely as it is, anybody using those? :P

Still use rpgmaker 1 from time to time. I have 2 and 3 but never invest much time into them.

Working on a few things right now. Still need to finish Holy-Chaos. Should be released early 09. Working on the Mirage of Destiny demo. Lastly, I'm working on the Mini-Game Contest. Just got RPGM 1 the other day.

just by the chat and frequenting the various dev forums ive seen that the community of rpgmakers is still alive here, however dormant and sluggish their production speed. some have vanished without a trace which leaves me to wonder if they are still creating and just dont have time to poke about here or if they have given up entirely. our numbers have been seriously reduced over the recent years, and the volume of completed games has also shrunk exponentially. it seems the same people are still creating (coincidentally still working on the games they first started).

we need more rpg maker users here. more blood to give imput into games, to breath fresh life into this place and to increase the dynamics that make this place a great development tool. i implore you all, go find rpg designers and invite them here, find old members who have wondered astray and call them back, hell even bribe random strangers on the street to pop in.

now that ive finished my triad, ill say that yes, im still working with rpg maker 1 and yes its still crystal shores. i wont lie, i dont have the slightest inclination as to when ill finish the project.

I have RPGM 1, 2, and 3 and Fighter Maker 2. I loved those Fighter Maker 2 scenes because it showed me that you really can do something original with it. The instruction booklet is so complex and the layout is kind of difficult to navigate so I could never really test it. Who made those scenes? Was it you Duel or did you find that online?

Although I haven't completed any projects for RPGM1 and only a small one for RPGM 2, I have tested both, especially RPGM 2 so I know what I can and cannot do with them and hope to use them some day. I'm really only focusing on RPGM 3 right now.

I remember before when it was proposed (was it by you Draygone?) that the Mag host Fighter Maker games. Before I was against it. Now I am for it if those saves can be uploaded and downloaded as easily as RPGM games.

@Karr Lord of Chaos
If someone has the PS3 models that are backwards compatible, it seems like we could find some new people in the community if the older ones are willing to sell their copies. Otherwise they better keep playing and making community games!

I think the biggest problem is people feel like they don’t get the recognition they deserve. People spend so much time making something to contribute to the community, but what do they get in return? Nothing really. His or her game sits in the Game Fault and maybe someone will respond to it. I believe the decrease of users is in partial related to the decrease in the site itself. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, a lot more magazine articles came out. Now one comes out every 3+ months. The site is supposed to be a place to get your game previewed and reviewed. I can probably count the number of reviews I’ve seen since I’ve been here on one hand.

We sit back and say times are changing and people don’t like using the makers anymore, but in truth there’s a lot more we could/can do to encourage game making. There’s ways we can give people the recognition they deserve. There are plenty of games that have come out that haven’t been reviewed. If we previewed demo’s it would give that person a reason to finish the game. (Do we even have official Reviewers anymore?) The Contributor Castle is a good idea, but the people that would be using are the few that are working on games.

An idea I’ve been thinking about for a while now are simply studio interviews that get posted on the front page. Have a new interview every week. That way every person’s game gets some coverage. Not just the “Veterans games.â€

You know, Lausen makes some good points. It isn't just that people have stopped being interested in RPGMing. It's that there isn't really much reason to enjoy it anymore. Unless you're a veterin RPGM master, who's gonna pay attention to what you create? Maybe the Mag needs to become what it was before. I think we were at our peak when Mag v5 released, when people talked about the good games as well as the bad as well as the obscure. Now, we're just a forum with some weird unused site tacked on front, and I'd be surprised if even a game like Spheer would get much attention if it were released today.

On that note, I'd like to bring up Karr's new demo. Has anybody actually played it yet? I know he's been asking around for feedback. *checks the memory card requirement*

Anyway, back on topic. Uh... Nothing has changed since my earlier post. Except, now I have a full belly.

thanks for the plug, im rabid for some kind of feedback.

good ideas so far, we need to really invest in our member base if we want it to grow. might be time to contemplate another mag revival.

I really approve of this topic. Maybe we should make some kind of agreement to play at least 1 game/demo made by someone a month or something and offer that person feedback.... wether that's a review or just a PM... just as long as it is something or anything.

Karr, I'm going to start with yours. I'll go ahead and convert it to PS3 and play it on there. Then when I give you the feedback, I'll also hand over your PS3 formatted copy.

Oh, and I'm also an RM1 user. I actually don't have hardly any experience with any other maker...

I don't have time to look for it now, but this is what I was going for with the "completed works" topic (and companion topic) where you updated your gamer card about what games you actually finished and what Mag games you played. It was taken down and never put back up.

It would be nice if there were a master list of games that people would like feedback to. Something not spread out over multiple posts in a thread.

Maybe a wiki would be good for that. List all games that need to be played... and anyone can pick something from that list (all games could have URL's to said game).

That way anyone can add their game to the list, and anyone who has played it, can send feedback and remove it from the list.

It's just that we don't really utilize the wiki around the mag all too well.

Yeah, I'm down to play a different game once a month. I've been looking for feed back on Evil Fantasy too. The review Valk gave for the contest was rather short.

The wiki ideas is pretty interesting.

Well, it won't hurt to give it a shot...

Go get your games on that list.

I have finally reached a place of peace and contentment with the Mag. It's taken a long two years of struggle, discontent, and wrestling with my feelings to get to where I'm at now, but I believe I have arrived where I belong.

My rejuvenated and updated approach is to spend my time working on projects and not waste time being concerned with what I've already done. I am using RPG Maker 3. When I finish something I'm just gonna put it out there and not worry about how it's being received. That doesn't mean that feedback isn't welcome. It just means that it's not unduly expected.

The place where I belong is working quietly in the background. I have always been meant to be the guy behind the scenes, not the rock star on center stage in the limelight. That doesn't mean I'm asking to be ignored. Rather, I've found the place where I'm content and happy. Recognition is welcome, but I don't require it to be happy with what I've done and what I'm doing. Hope that makes sense.

I don't do demos. The way I design a game kind of precludes a demo. No part of the game is complete until all of it is complete.

I recently played Bo's game and gave him some feedback in his forum. I didn't write up a review, but... maybe I could do that sometime. I'd like to play Lausen's stuff, too. I playtested Pagerron's long-awaited magnum opus, but that was behind the scenes.
