Can anyone help me out with this. I have limited historical knowledge of RPGS but I know that the Dragon Quest games have been out for a long time. What I am wondering is how much do the DQ development team have to do with the creation of RPGMs?

For example, I heard that they made the built in game for RPGM2, but it also seems like they created the built in scripts and style of the engine itself.

Likewise, RPGM 3 built in events have the typical Sanctuary, Inn, navigatable 3D field map, etc. which are traditional to Dragon Quest but absent from games like Shadow Hearts and Xenosaga (and FF?).

So who is developing what to resemble what with respect to all this?

Also in River King, it looks like you could make most of the game entirely (not sure about the fish view cam) with RPGM2. The difference is the look of the object set. So is it possible, that RPGM2 and River King use the same engine? In some ways this makes sense to me as would they really create the RPGM2 engine from scratch just for RPGM2?
