Just thought I could create a topic on some kinda-newbie questions.

First is sorta directed to a specific individual, unless anyone else knows.
Pagerron- In his/your avatar, is that an actual map of one of his/your games? And if so, is it one field map, or did you combine several field maps to create one? I think it is very creative and original.

Next question-
In RPGM3, when creating extra modes for characters, is it possible to place mode1 in a seperate town from mode2 of the same character? I would experiment for myself, but it could save me some time if I just found out now. Thank you in advance.

Next Question-
Do you think it's a good idea to place events as decorative graphics in areas out of reach on field maps, or does this take up too much space? I do this "little trick" when I can't place anymore decorative graphics on a map, especially if it looks bare.

Thank you all for any insights you may have, I will take them all to heart.

I played the demo of Daniel's Quest 3 and I'd bet money that map is from his game.

There are soooooooo many games I want to download on this website, but alas, I am not capable of such actions....for now. :evil

MAN.... even I have enough of my game done to submit a demo. :cry

Anyway, thank you 1ce for the info. Do you know if it was just one field map, or from what you played, was it several combined field maps?

Oh, I wish I could download!!!

Also, it was nice meeting you, 1ce.

You can only place a character in one location and he takes with him all his modes. You can copy the character (including his modes) at the character selection screen and place copies of the characters throughout different towns and then have either the modes themselves or auto events switch on and off the charcter modes (or even displaying the character) in other towns. I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do so let me know if you want me to be more specific.

I would use events as decorative objects but rather than put the events out of reach, I'd put the dec. objects out of reach (if at all necessary) and have the events in reach with a simple one line description so that if the player buttons it (due to the yellow event indicator) it provides added description to make the town seem that more detailed, "the tree looks very old but very strong. I'm sure it could speak volumes more than any book ever written of its paper...". You get the picture, right?

There was only that one field map that was in the demo.

Hey, thanks Bo!

Awww man, I was trying to get around the 100 NPC limit. Oh well, thank you for the info.

Hey, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who makes the charactors comment on the trees, heh heh. :lol

I'm just trying to gather some tricks of the trade, also, I could share a trick with you if you didn't already know. I also like to "hide" unwanted graphics with other graphics. an example; I want a town model that consists of nothing but trees and nature, now this won't look good if you've got, say, all those stupid stumps everywhere, or even that ugly manmade gate!! I like to take trees and "clip" their graphics over the stumps and gate, then just create an alternate entrance via "position change event", and voila, you have a fully foliaged forest.

But, I'm sure you guys are pros at this sorta thing, and I hope I can at least bring few new ideas to the table.

I would love to hear if anyone has some neat tricks of the trade for RPGM3, any thing would be highly appreciated.

Also, thanks again Bo. (hope it's ok to call ya that):)

Thanks for the compliment, bro. Yeah, that's a map (made in paint) of the world of Nevernear - from Daniel's Quest III.

http://www.rpgmmag.com/forums/viewtopic ... ach&id=561

In the actual game, I duplicated the same Nevernear field 5 times. Then I named them each duplicate something else: Nevernear Forest, Mid Nevernear, N.E. Nevernear, Nevernear Ridge and Nevernear Beach. Having events that warp you from one "section" to the other (or dungeon/cave connections) I made it all seem to be one field, so I have a "field" that can hold 100 events. Woo Hoo! Anyway, yeah, this isn't anything new, but it works well.

You can call me Bo and you're welcome.

The thing about tips or tricks is that there are some listed on the Resources link of the Main Page.

I myself am torn about tricks. I generally try not to read them so that I can figure them out for myself. I also try not to disclose them (to give others a chance to learn how to create the game and so that we can all see what people come up with on their own) unless someone asks how to do something in which I am willing to disclose anything that I know about how to make a game.

It is more important to me to communicate about gamemaking than it is to hide a trick, but I think that I will only first disclose it either within a game (in which someone can see for themselves how it is done if they examine the construction) or if someone specifically asks how to do something.

That having been said, once I start posting games (I think my first will really go up this weekend), I may write brief FAQ's on some things within the games to save people the time of looking through the game for how to do something if I think it is of any significant interest.

Hmmmmm, duplicated field maps-sheesh I've got a lot to learn, especially if pagerron says that this duplicating maps trick isn't too new.

Also, thank you Bo for giving me a heads up to the resource link on the main page.

Thank you again everyone for your tips, I'm going to try and browse more of the forums, so I can avoid asking questions that have already been answered. Although I can't promise too much.

Just a side comment- I wish I could download some of these games so I can just SEE how they put them together....not to copy of course, just to learn the tricks of the trade.

You can do this with RPGM3 by loading the sample game, "Dear Brave Heart".

You first load it and then go to 'edit' the game and then you can look at al the completed maps, characters, events, etc.

I actually learned a couple things while snooping around there.

Hmm, "Dear Brave Heart." I had looked through this demo's architecture before, but at that time I had little understanding as to how everything was put together. Now that I have basically tried everything that this game has to offer, I can NOW look through "Dear Brave Heart" with a greater understanding.

Now I want to scope out much stronger projects, and see how they were put together, but once again, no online. :cry

Also, I promise not to wine anymore about no online capabilties, just questions now. ;)
