You wanna make an Rpg? Well do ya? If you're new to the Rpg Maker universe, than don't pick up this game!
This game has frusterated me a lot. As you will read in my review.

Story/Events:

In this game you can't make a decent cutscene. Instead the developers throw this "Storyteller" mode at your face while they laugh at you. Whats so bad about this Storyteller mode? You set up 2 lame pictues and add text. Than there ya go. Sure you can add special affects and move the pictures, but thats totally lame. The Devs are laughing at us right now. Lets continue. The events in the game blow and are pretty much confusing as hell.

Graphics:

Imagine this, you're sitting down and all of a sudden you take a dump in your pants. Than you smear it on the wall and congratulate your mom for winning the junior kids spelling bee. This is what the graphics are like in RPGM3. You have green carpet as grass. trees look the same! The water has no movement!!!!! Buildings and the character models wear such lame outfits!!!!!!!!!!!

Gameplay:

Lol. 10 minute battles. Slow characters that walk and run like they took a dump in their pants!? Npcs that hardly walk at all. The towns you make will seem so lifeless. Dungeons are dumb and generic. You can make an island that looks like the inside of a Fruity Pebbles cereal box. pretty much it blows

Create System:

Using 2d to make a 3d map!? If you screw up you'll make your map look messed up. Limited number of buildings! Limited items! Everything is limited!!!!!!!! You'll get your ass kicked by constant menus and menus and menus!!!!!!!

Sound:
Lame. Doesn't sound right. I'd rather record and upload Rpgm1's music than listen to what Rpgm 3 has.

Conclusion:
I would rather play Rpgm2 on advance mode than playing Rpgm3. Rpgm3 is a spawn of death. The Devs are laughing at us. Do you hear them?!?
I can't even make a game with this! After i finish editing my game, all i say is "Ok. I'm done".

So yeah my review sucks. But thats why i do not like Rpgm3.

I'm gonna make a rebuttal, now. :)

Three pictures, actually. And they aren't lame. They're actually pretty nice. Well, half of them are at least. It just sucks that they don't match character models and don't have any emotion features. And confusing? I actually found it one of the easier things to get the hang of.

I'm never gonna understand how anybody can say the graphics in RPGM3 are crappy. I mean come on, unless you prefer cartoony graphics or 2D graphics, RPGM3 trumps both RPGM1 and 2. And grass has been carpety for a long long time in 3D games, including in games released around the same time as RPGM3.

Some people would consider that a plus, actually. :P

That was actually a pretty great idea. It just doesn't transfer too well with land height.

Okay, now you're complaining just for the sake of complaining.
1) It's RPG Maker.
2) You cannot honestly complain about this after having experienced RPGM2.

Most everything else I agree with or cannot complain against. Like the sound. High quality, it is (well, except the sound effects), but some people just don't like the Lord of the Rings music.

Why I like RPGM3

Storyteller Scenes:

At first glance, the spreadsheet layout was kind of daunting. I was
like, "What the heck is this all about?" But when I started working with it,
I soon realized that it's really easy to work with. Having mastered the
spreadsheet system, I can fade a scene in, fade it out (both graphics
and music), do a few special effects here and there, add in sound
effects, and expertly tell my story with a mixture of dialogue and prose.
But as DuelExpert noted, it's mostly a matter of displaying character
portraits on a background and using dialogue/prose to tell your story. I
was able to do a really professional prologue for my game, where it opens
up just like a movie, with character names displayed as if they were the
lead actors in a movie. It's really spiffy. Like the opening in Xenosaga
Ep 1 except not as high concept. But it's professional nonetheless, and it
comes complete with fade in and fade out.

Graphics - Field Map Editor:

I can create some really cool 3D worlds with this, complete with hills,
valleys, mountains, paths that go up the side of mountains (just like a
platformer game except without the jumping from ledge to ledge),
shorelines, offshore islands, highlands, lowlands, you name it. But it takes
patience and skill. The vertical mode editor is not something you can sit
down with and produce a professional-looking 3D world in a couple
minutes. Or even a couple hours. If you suffer from ADD or are
otherwise patience-impaired, you're gonna be able to produce crap at
best. Using the field map editor is a fine art form.

But imagine this. You're in a vividly imagined game world with hills,
valleys, mountains, highlands, lowlands, forests, grassy fields, real
textured landscape (as opposed to artifically flat terrain) and everything
else that goes into a well thought out three dimensional world you can
interact with.

To see examples of this fine art form in action, I recommend playing:
The Raiders Of Lekunder - by yours truly
Whispers In The Woods - by Vonwert
Ursus Quest: Shadow Of The Towers - by Obright

All are examples of masterful field map design. And all represent hours of
meticulous work. To become a master landscape artist takes patience,
perseverence, and dedication. It's not the same as slapping down tiles to
create a two dimensional world. The vertical mode editor isn't for
everybody. But one who masters it can produce fantastic results.

Graphics - Dungeon Interiors:

It's true that dungeon interiors are pretty bland by themselves. Floors
and walls. But cave interiors have some nice texture on the walls, and
your dungeon doesn't have to be boring. I can create intricate,
labyrinthine layouts that span many floors. And liberal use of decorations
(and events used as decorations) can go a long way toward spicing up an
otherwise boring empty room. There aren't many decorations to choose
from, but there are enough. Tables and chairs, barrels, boxes, jars,
potted plants, and other stuff can spice up that room or cave and make it
look interesting. And some of these can even be things the player can
interact with to find hidden items and stuff. It's really only as limited as
your creativity is. I've created dungeons that are filled to the brim with
interesting things to see and do.

Graphics - Towns:

Getting a great-looking town up and running is ridiculously easy. There
are plenty of building exteriors to choose from, and placing them in the
town is as easy as "drag 'n' drop". It's possible to create some really nice
town layouts with plenty of interesting things a player can interact with.

Gameplay:

It's only as good as you make it. There really isn't much to say here.
You can create a masterpiece or crap. It's up to you.

Editor System:

Ridiculously easy to use. We're working with a lot of premade templates
here. Creating items is so easy, it's not even funny. Same goes for
characters, monsters, and monster parties. Hey, it's so easy a cave man
could do it!

Sound:

Limited number of musical arrangements to choose from, but what's here
is pretty stellar. Effects are functional. Overall, pretty good. I'm
satisfied with the musical pieces I used for "The Raiders Of Lekunder".
They all convey the right mood and feel for it.

Conclusion:

Most of your complaints sound a lot like "This game maker sucks because
I can't make anything good with it", which sounds suspiciously like "This
game sucks because I can't beat it. It's too hard for me." The results you
get from using this game maker are only gonna be as good as what you
put into it. You can make a great game, or you can make crap. I'm
gonna get massively flamed for saying this, but I'd say the problem
doesn't lie with RPGM3. Rather, it lies with the user's lack of
talent/skill/vision. But not everyone can be a gifted game designer. If
everyone was, then I wouldn't get to feel special. :D (That's a joke, and
a pretty absurd thing to say.) But seriously, it's only as good as the ideas
you put into it. The templates are there. The system for creating an
interactive 3D world is there. The results you get are only gonna be as
good as the effort and skill you put into it.

(If anything I said here offended anyone, I apologize. It had to be said.)

No good can come of Rpgm3. It is a spawn of evil that stares and whispers to me at night. That strange aura it gets from the case, just reeks of evil.

Sorry DuelExpert, I agree much more with the replies than I do with your review, especially the fact that the graphics in my opinion KILL the graphics of RPGM 1 and 2. To dislike the graphics of 3 is to HATE the graphics of 1 and 2. I have a TON of opinions on the subject, but the only worth mentioning right now is this. I loved RPGM 2. It is obviously a world more powerful and more controllable. I disliked RPGM3 when it came out. Now it is my clear favorite of all 3. The fun of all 3 in many ways (as hinted at above) IS figuring out how to creatively work with the limitations.

Although I have a number of complaints for all 3, in my opinion, 2 things that are very lacking in 3 are the ability to rename things like "MP" and "gold", etc. and the inability to provide script control of items or abilites.

I have however, accepted the things that I cannot change and can (somewhat happily) work around it.

The only thing that REALLY upsets me is the speed of battles. This I agree with you and this is unfortunate. The only real solutions are to make more of an adventure game with smaller dungeons for random battles, give items that reduce battle rate, rely more on event battles, and make the battles more challenging to be worth playing.

Otherwise, I'm much happier with 3 than with 2 or 1.

Ive played them both, and I honestly agree with Duel. For ONE thing!
The map design is hard. I liked RM2 more. I played RM2 at my friends house, and I enjoyed making the map. RM3 was pretty cool in development. The battles looked pretty cool. That's basicly all I saw, besides the map.

So, it's kinda like a comparasion between 2 and 3 here.

RM2's charater models looked neat, and RM3's looked more detailed. My friend (who is on the mag under Dr. Necros) prefers RM2, and so do I. I cant say anything about 1. But, I like XP more than 2 and 3, then 2, then 3. XP is much easier to use, but now let's get that out of our bloodstream.

On RM3, my friend told me that you can place trees/events/chests etc. in 3D, which seemed pretty cool. On RM2, I couldn't understand the events. On XP, the events are soo easy to use. But, im not sure how to make cutscenes.

Summary:
RM3 is easy sometimes, and RM2 is alright, but RMXP is the best.

Scores:
RM2 - 7
RM3 - 6
RMXP - 9.75

LMFAO LOLOLOLOLOLOL :lol :lol *cry's in laughter*

Ok.. Aside of you being "Oh so funny" ( I love it! )

Your right about a lot of things. Story teller sucks. Its cheese as all hell.

I do like the idea that they made it easy for you to place things on the screen. So its not like to have to custom make every house from the bottom up.

Also the 3d look to the game I think out does the other two RPGmakers. Even though I know its true that the other two are more custom building witch makes the game "rpgmaker" Not "RPGputTogetherSomeoneElsesShiz" Over all from 1-10 I give the game a 6. Its good. But can be much better.

Also.. I like waterfalls. Theres no waterfalls in this game.
