I just started on my RPG and I have some questions.

1. Should I split my game up into 2 hours "chapter" or "acts"?
2. Should It be a EPIC game 40 - 60 hours?
3. Is an Evo Drive the same thing as a Max Drive?
4. Is it me or do Dungeons lag?

A 40-60 game would take quite a long time.... other people who have actually finished a game may be able to clarify.

My game has about 26 hours of data and 10-15 minutes of gameplay.

For you first question, I think it would depend on what type of game it was. If it really is epic then I would say acts.

other questions, I don't know.

Um... what RPG Maker are you using, again?

Do you want to make a bunch of 2-hour acts?

Do you want to make your quest 40-60 hours in length? Or for that matter, do you think you are capable of coming up with a 40-60 hour game? Odds are you won't be able to make a game that long with RPGM3, anyway.

By Evo Drive, do you mean in the Action Replay Max EVO Edition? I think that works, but I'm not sure.

Dungeons lag if you build them "wrong". You can't have super complex mazes, and I think it helps if you don't use too many narrow corridors.

I guess I will make a 2 hour demo and get it rated. If it gets a high rating, then I will start making my game as 2 hours acts. If it gets a low rating, then I will make it an "epic".

Yes I have an Action Replay Max EVO Edition; the sales person told me it had a Max Drive. I read the book that came with it and it called it an Evo Drive.

I suck at making dungeons, they always lag. :(

Who is Eragon? Please don't ban me, I didn't make two user names, I'm not Eragon.

More specifically, it's a movie based on a book. I'm surprised you haven't heard of it, unless you don't live in the US.

It's gonna be extremely difficult to make a 40+ hour epic with RPG Maker
3. One guy I know set out to do that, got the skeleton of his game made,
then ran out of room. His game doesn't have any NPCs in the numerous
towns, and the towns are very sparse (a few shops per town).

Actually, "extremely difficult" doesn't begin to describe the challenges you
are going to face. The foremost challenge is data usage. Yes, you can
make oodles of field maps with a gazillion towns and dungeons on them,
but if you do that you're gonna run your data usage up to 99% real quick.
Another way to run your data usage up is to have lots of storyteller
scenes and story events. Text blocks are the single largest devourer or
data memory. One text block by itself doesn't take up much memory.
It's the volume of text blocks that will eat away at your data usage. If
you're planning on having lots of conversations and story ... well, all that
text is gonna take up memory.

Characters and monsters can also devour memory if used liberally.
Everything you add is gonna take up some memory. It's just not possible
to make a huge game with one RM3 game file. You could split up your
huge epic into any number of contiguous game files, but then you'd need
a way to link them together (i.e. at the end of game file 1, put up a
message that says "The story continues in File 2").

The game I made runs 15 to 20 hours, and it's a small game. It takes up
80.5% of the memory, and it has the following: 1 field map, 1 town, 5
large dungeons, 6 small dungeons, 4 playable characters, about 30 NPCs,
and about 30 monsters (I think; could've been more than that). It also
has 77 storytellers and 660 events. As you may be imagining, this is
pretty small in scale. And it takes up most of the available memory.

RPG Maker 3 was not designed with huge 40 to 60 hour games in mind.

An Evo Drive is exactly what you need. It's what I have.

Dungeons suffer from slowdown if there's too much material crammed
onto one floor. Each dungeon can be 10 floors high (staircases going up)
and 10 floors down (staircases going down). Split your massive labyrinth
into several floors, each with a small area of floor space. Do not create a
huge maze on one floor. The result will be slowdown.

I'm done my demo. I having a friend test it out. I didn't know that you could run out of room in RPGM3. I guess I have to make thing small for my first RPG. It took me 90 min to play test my game, now im going to see how long my friend takes and use that as my time it should take to play the demo.

What you need to do is economize. Decide what elements are the most
important to you, focus on those, and economize with everything else.
For example, NPCs in town weren't all that important to me, so I didn't
have very many (they cause slowdown anyway, if you add too many).
Decorations, on the other hand, are important to me. I wanted all of my
dungeon environments to look as good as possible, so I used a lot of deco
(which can also consume memory if you place oodles of decorations).
Instead of doing a gazillion maps, I did a few well-decorated ones.

This isn't to say that you can't have massive, labyrinthine dungeons. You
can. You just can't have a gazillion of them. You can also have a lot of
NPCs if you want. It's just likely to come at the cost of something else.

Don't worry about data usage until you're at 50%. That's the time to start
worrying about it and estimate if you'll be able to fit everything in. Keep
track of your data usage every time you add in new stuff and get a feel
for how much the data usage goes up each time you add new material.
Of course, if you're over 50% data usage and you've only told a fraction
of your story, then I'd start worrying.

Huh, i'm planning to also make an epic game (PoC) that i want it probably 40 hours of gameplay. But can you make that happen by doing the multiple file trick.Well, maybe a lot of multiple file tricks.

Hey, i love to download your game if i ever had the chance.Hope that the game is good and fun ^ ^
