All projects mentioned in this topic are my abandoned projects. If you want to learn more about them, click here.

-------------------------------------

There are 3 main Rpg Makers on PC: XP, VX and Ace.
All of them have different RTPs. Some of them are better, some are worse. For example, in my project Legend of Dream World, there is a Mimic (monster that looks like a treasure chest), but I didn't like the Mimic graphic in Ace, so I imported the one from VX, and it looks much better.

But this topic isn't about Graphics, it's about Music.
So, which of these makers has, in your opynion, better music?

I can't really relate to XP, as I never used it, so let's see what I think of VX and Ace music.

There are a lot of great songs in Ace, for various different atmospheres.

I'm not going to go throught all of them, but here are some I like

The airship theme really makes you feel like you're flying above the world

The battle theme I used in Legend of Dream World for standart enemyes. It might be a bit generic, but it's got energy, which I like

This Battle theme can go great for a bad-ass boss

This battle theme just screams "Evil" and "Power". It could be used in carious "Epic" moments as well, not just in battle

Using this dungeon theme for a forest in Legend of Dream World. Fits the atmosphere pretty well, I think

This dungeon theme sure has a mysterious atmosphere. It kind of gives me "Who Wants To Be A Millionare" vibes. Not sure why.

Using this in Legend of Dream World for a cave

A sad backstory

Now this one is a pretty awesome Town theme, So I'm totally using this in Legend of Dream World

------------------------------------------

Now, while Ace does have some awesome music, and there's plenty of more awesome songs other than those I mentioned, VX has some great songs as well.

Althought, most of VX's songs I don't like as much as Ace's songs, there are some songs in VX that I really really like, and for a few I just don't see any Ace song being able to replace them, to the point that I even imported them into Ace

Keep in mind, the VX RTP music is in MID format, so in these videos it doesn't sound exactly the same as it does in gameplay, but it's close enought to understand the main idea

5:46 I used this music at the beginning of Weird Adventure. The hero waking up in bed, not knowing where he is? And leading up to a kind-of-portal experiment? Works pretty well, I think

0:55 In World Minus Ten, i used this music for Maze Woods. I think this music can work well for a Forest Area, and I was planning to import it into Ace and use it for Legend of Dream World as well, for another forest later in the game

2:57 This was used in my very very first project as music playing at the casino. It's a pretty nice music, and could work well for a mini-game area as well

3:52 Game Intro, Scrolling Text, Legend, Prophesy, World Backstory. I used this in Quest Gold and the RPG School Emerald for the Intro, I used this in Crappy Quest when viewing the map of the world at the end of the game (which never got reached, of course), and I also imported this into Ace, and used in Legend of Dream World multiple times for various reasons

4:45 Save Areas, Warp Zones, Mysterious Area,Fairy/Pixie/Spirit Theme. Used it Crappy Quest for a cave where a Dragon who can change your name is, and imported into Ace to use in Legend of Dream World for a few mysterious locations

0:00 Nice, peaceful town. Was used in World Minus Ten for the first town. (Actually, I only called it North Town, but today i relise that was actually a village. Containing nothing but grass and houses. Terrible mapping. But that project was only my second attempt at RMing. Aniway, I'm getting of topic).

1:05 Now this town music is actually much better for Fields or Seaside Areas, i think. That's what I used it for in World Minus Ten, and in Quest Gold and the RPG School Emerald, it was used in the first level/challange for the game. Well, it worked for that game, because it was a relaxing tutorial level. (Relaxing? Yeah, right. More like annoying, and explaining way way to much. But the setting of the game was a school for those who don't know anything about RPGs, so... Nope, still bad). I also planned to import it to Ace to use it in Legend of Dream World somewhere later in the game... Not sure where thought...

2:18 This music is good for Chuches and Castles. I used this for a castle in my first ever VX project, I planned to use this for the King's Castle in World Minus Ten, and I also planned to import it into Ace and use it for a Castle or something later on in Legend of Dream World

-----------------------------

Well, that's my opynion and experience with using the PC Rpg Makers music.
Let me know what you all think of their music, what are your favorite songs, and how did you use them in your games
