Use a switch. Here's an example of an event that will be activated like that.

Here's the scenario. You need to get a certain item from some dude in a building. But you want the player to talk to the secretary in order for the dude to appear. Here's what you do.
Event 1 will represent the Secretary.

Event 1
Page 01
Graphic: ?? (whatever you want her to look like)
Movement: None
Activation: Check
Conditions: none
-- --
00 Display Message: Talk to my boss to get the key. He's on floor two.
01 Switch 001: on

Now you'll create a second event where this man will appear elsewhere, like on the second floor. But in this scenario, the man will only appear after you talk to the secretary. Here's the event.

Event 2
Page 01
Graphic: No Graphic
Movement: None
Activation: Touch
Conditions: none
-- --
no contents

That's your first page, and the RPGM1 engine will read it at default. When it sees this page, it will know to display nothing. Now you will add a second page to that event.

Event 2
Page 02
Graphic: ?? (whatever you want him to look like)
Movement: None
Activation: Check
Conditions:
Switch 001 is ON
Switch 002 is OFF
-- --
00 Display Message: You need this item from me? Sure. Here you go.
01 Add Item: Keycard
02 Switch 002: on

Now add a third page so this event will not repeat itself (i.e. the man will not give you the card each time you talk to him).

Event 2
Page 03
Graphic: ?? (whatever you want him to look like)
Movement: None
Activation: Check
Conditions:
Switch 002 is ON
-- --
00 Display Message: I hope you find what you're looking for.

There, it's as simply as that. When you make that third page, don't worry about adding the extra condition (Switch 001 is ON). The engine will automatically go to that page because 1) it sees the event's default is not in effect, 2) page 2 is negated from condition Switch 002 is OFF, and 3) page three indicates the page will be activated using Switch 002.

I hope this has been helpful.
