If by chance you have a great memory you'll remember that I registered on this site a long time ago. I haven't been active since, and I've forgotten about RPG Maker, mostly because of my studies and other stuff.
But I started working on my game again, and I have a pretty clear picture of what I'm going to do but first I want to tell you WHY I'm making a game.
I don't like turn-based RPGs. I like Skyrim, but stuff like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger never peeked my interest, even if they are masterpieces in their own genre. I'm not that big of a fan of RPGs in general.
I study computer science, and a big part of that is game development. So making a game, even with something like RPG Maker, is a learning experience. I have completed about 10% of my game and i have already learnt much. I've learnt how fun it is when stuff you came up with works to perfection, and also learnt that most of the time it does not. Solving problems is rewarding.
Me making this game is more about the journey than the end goal. Who knows, maybe I'll make this game for many years and have about 20 minutes of gameplay to show for it, and I'd be happy.
About the game I'm not all that serious about making this game, and the game will reflect that. Don't expect any serious plot or super expansive worlds, just a light-hearted romp through a couple of levels. I'm still not sure about the difficulty of the game or what weapons will there be or what kind of craziness the game will feature, but that's so great about programs like RPG Maker. You can have your imagination run wild.
I'm making this for the PS1 version, because it runs on my PSP. It runs really great too, and the only downsides are the somewhat limited options and the fact that the PSP has no L2 or R2 buttons. The PS1 version is limited, yes, but it is easy to use, and I have not run into any problems that I couldn't figure out with the mighty help of online help guides.
My biggest problem is making the levels. I'm not very good at that, so I'll have to rely on the premade levels the editor has. It's not the best way but some of the premade levels are impossible to do by hand anyways.
Of course I'll upload the game on the internet so that you can play it and give me feedback.
So, what do you think? Any tips or tricks or words of enlightment? Feel free to tell me. This was DKX, peace and prosperity to you all.
