10 years ago, I posted my very first let's play, my own RPG Maker game, Jester's Hunt: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 990BFB55B8

Since then, I've done a lot of RPG Maker playthroughs, but lately, I've kinda stepped away from RPG Maker for the most part. So to celebrate my 10th anniversary, I'm returning to my roots.

This Saturday (October 6th) at 5pm Eastern/9pm GMT, I will stream RPG Maker 1 on the PlayStation at Twitch:

For the first time, I will give an in-depth look at the editor, as well as the sample game, Gobli, starring an RPG goblin who is tired of being a random encounter and wants to become a boss.

So far, I've done two streams in this celebration. I decided thate the best way to show how RPG Maker 1 works is by making a complete (albeit small) game with one.

I was browsing your RPG Maker vids at Twitch and found "The Equipment Cancel Glitch", which was pretty interesting. I thought you might also want to squeeze in the "Negative Memory" glitch that I found years ago.

It serves no practical purpose and ruins the game it is used in and can be reversed. It's been a while since I have done it, but it goes something like this:

  • Use all of RPG Makers Scenario Data, except leave approx. 1 remaining.
  • Use the Snapshot command and copy it (possibly delete it also).
  • Now paste the Snapshot until the Memory becomes a Negative Value.
  • At this point you can continue adding things, but everything will be corrupted.
  • If you return the game to 0 Memory or more everything should return to normal.

Before I knew it would cause problems, I thought this might be a way to increase the Scenario Data. It's too bad that it doesn't work that way. If what I listed doesn't work let me know and I'll try out some things with RM to find the glitch again.

Sorry about that, it's been a long time since I used it.
Plus, it's completely useless!

Try this:

  • Use all of RPG Makers Scenario Data, except leave 1 remaining.
  • Enter Event editing and select an Event.
  • Add Command 23 (Ending) > Ending BGM > BGM Change/Default.
  • Event Memory should now be 65535.
  • NOTE: Event Memory will show a different amount if you enter the Event again.
  • The Memory (MEM) should now become a Negative Value (-1).
  • Update Data and you are done!
  • At this point you can continue adding things, but everything will be corrupted.
  • If you return the game to 0 Memory or more everything should return to normal.

Awesome!

I'm going to try using it again to add things to...

If it works, I'll have a brand new battle system!!!

Ordinarily there wouldn't been enough Memory for this, unless I spit between 2 Scenarios.
I'm not sure if it would work even then, considering how the game is made.
Basically, I use a lot of Treasure Events, so splitting is problematic.

Who knows, I just might go through the code and see if splitting is an option.
If it's doable, then I would, possibly, release yet another updated version of the game.

Wish me luck. :)

By the way, I'm looking forward to your Golbi LP. It's been forever since I played it.

By the way, I said I was going to stream Remote Control and Nano-Bot as part of this celebration. What I didn't count on is how long it took to make a little game for RPGM1. I'm basically RPGM1'd out, and am gonna take a break from it after Gobli, focusing on other RPGMs. But when I return to RPGM1 itself (and I will), Remote Control and Nano-Bot will be at the top of my list.

It's not only hard, but also broken. You have to save every change you want to keep, because attempting to rewind tends to desync your animations and toss your characters all over the place.
