I'm a bit confused. There's obviously some taboo around here that I've heard referred to as bumping a topic or something like that. If I messed up somehow, sorry 'bout that. Please understand that, not only am I new to these forums, but also before I came here I never had anything to do with any form of Internet chatting, so I'm not familiar with common ettiquette, if there exists anything like that.

I would appreciate someone telling me specifically what this means so I can avoid it in the future. ^_^

Well I'm not really sure where it came from, but most boards do not like for really old topics to be brought to the fore front. The usual limit is if it's more than a couple pages back, or about half a year old let it be.

Of course this seems to conflict with the idea that people don't want others to start new topics if one already exists. So an admin can give more clarification, but basically just don't post in a whole bunch of old topics.

Basically, don't bump/revive older topics unless you have something to add to the discussion.

And don't bother with the really old ones. Trying to revive those is like talking about "yesterday's news".

... Oh. I gotcha. I'll try to keep up better so that I don't randomly end up on another pg.15 of a forum, again. (That's what led to the accidental revival of "old" topics on my behalf.) I guess I could have just paid attention to the date of the last post on a thread and avoided it, huh? :lol

well... the College one.. you referred to Fayorei's education that she was about to embark on.. except that she is in second year college now >___> It was from May 05... and it's almost 2007.
If it's a topic that is discussing something relevent to society in general, then yeah we only need one thread, if it's a topic about something ongoing like a tv series or a 'list good anime' topic or a 'post your background' topic THEN it's ok to bump it. But as far as events go, once they are in the past they are in the past. reading old topics is a good way to learn about forum members and about the forum attitude. but replying to an event over a year old is like trying to dredge up the past which doesn't work so well sometimes >_> ... basically.

so it's kind of like what Dray said, but a lot longer....

I unlocked the "Women" one because that wasn't too bad, but the other two i left locked cus yeah... that was kind of useless. don't feel to bad or anything.. a lot of people new to forums have this kind of thing.

Trust me, I couldn't have cared less, so, no, I don't feel stupid. ;)

Well, it's no wonder I was over a year behind on that thread about colleges and stuff; that's what happens when you don't look at the date of the last post.

But, yes, I deliberately inserted my two cents on the thread about women, even if it was a couple of months old. That was just something I felt obligated to do. ^_^

^ Just to let you know.. Bumping is not a bad thing. It can be. But its also a good thing. Its better to bump a topic then to make a new topic. EX- You have a thread that says, "Post Pics" That thread just so happens to be 8 pages back. Its ok to "Post a Pic" to it. THEN TO MAKE A COPY OF THAT THREAD. If you do that then this whole mag will have copys of everything. So, letting you know Bumping threads is both "a Bad" and "a good" thing. :)

Edit: This link can also help you... HAVE A NICE DAY! :D
