The Pokemon series is getting a new dubbing cast, and I hear they suck.

I haven't watched Pokemon in well over a year, but the original voice cast is memorable to me in a way, and I don't want to see them go.

Well, there's really nothing we can do about it. Richard Cox is one of the best dubbed voices I've ever heard. BTW, he does Inuyasha and Vash the Stampede.

Well I don't watch TV so i said they should be bured because that sounds like fun. That and I don't really believe in dubs. Most dubs are pretty bad - and usually don't denote the same emotional content as the original voices. Fansubs are the best i usually find.

What different animes are being put on 4kidstv? I don't watch that kind of stuff. I usually buy my anime or import it. I cannot stand a lot of these DUBs, especially like One Piece where the characters have 0 emotion.

I really hate the cheap DUBs which are coming out now. The only good DUBs are from ADV films - Hillary Haag, Lorisa Wolcott, Kelly Manison, Spike Spencer, Jessica Calvetto, those guys rule.

>___>? He had the same opinion as you. Both people who mention One Piece had the same opinion as you. Makes less than sense.

I thought Excel Saga was an OK Dub. I still like to watch it in Japanese but the Dub wasn't horrible like so many are. You can't really go wrong with über crazy yelling and spazzing out.

Of course for all of us who have seen .Hack - the official Dub is pretty bad, the emotions in the voices and the word stress are totally different than originally intended but the official Subs arn't much better. Two words: Colon Purfume. They kind of killed that story alltogether. I have .Hack with fansubs on my computer and legal or not - they are BETTER.

Oh to learn japanese and watch raws. *prays for language skills*

Ah, I'm so glad Sumisem mentioned Excel Saga - best Anime DUBs. Of course, it's by ADV films, and they have some of the best voice actors.

Jessica Colvello in Excel Saga (played Excel) was great, and post Episode 13 Larissa Wolcotte (who voiced Excel after Jessica suffered her vocal cord injury) also did a great job. Monnica Rails is pretty good too - and who can forget precious Hillary Haag as Menchi(Mince)?

Eh. I'm a huge Excel Saga freak.

I haven't seen everything in excel saga, I've seen 1-5 episodes and the last 5 eps even the so called hentai parody. Don't forget dbz, the first 100 eps. dub weren't that good but after the it got popular they added much a much better dub. Pretty much both dubs were very good.

DBZ did get better DUBs as time went along - the actors starting fitting into their characters more.

In Excel Saga episodes 1 - 5 you have Jessica Colvetto doing Excel - she ducks out after 13, because of her time working on Excel Saga - she strains her throat acting the part of Excel so much that she actually starts forming lumps on her vocal cords and must stop in order to receive treatement. Monicca Rail voices Hyatt, and I think... I forgot who voices ll Palazzo (I think it's Alexander).

In the last five episodes, Larissa Wolcott is voicing Excel - she does an excellent job, especially in the last episode when she delivers that cheesy line from a song she made up:

"I don't understand it, but I'm still meeee!
Popcorn and cinnamon rolls go really good with cheeeeese!"

Once again, Monicca Rail voices Hyatt, whoever did Il Palazzo is still voicing Il Palazzo, and Hillary Haag is still voicing Menchi -- great cast all together - I think even Rob Mungle helps out somewhere along the lines.

And you're right, the "hentai parody" was episode 26, which is basically the final, final episode unrelated to the story - basically everyone went all out to be as crazy as can be (especially the little "I'm a G CUP!!!!" thing). Pretty hilarious - I really liked the "That Man" joke - "I am That Man. This Man. This Man Over There. That Man Over There. This Man Over Here."

Basically episode 26 consisted of a lot of crazy stuff - if you know a lot of anime, then all of Excel Saga has a blast, and episode 26 is linked constantly of numerous crazy anime parodies and connotations - it's so random, but that's what makes 26 so hilarious.

Eh. Again, I'm slipping into my Excel Saga fan mode... anyways...

Anyways, the DUBs for ADV are really great -- I used to listen to the fan subs with imports, and sometimes I'd import an anime without fan subs, fresh from Japan, and still listen to it - of course, it's difficult to hear what they're saying all the time because my knowledge of the Japanese language can only go so far.

VIZ and GENEON have really horrible DUBs, as well as numerous other companies. Really, it wasn't until the late 80's that ADV came out and started producing really good DUBs.

Numerous other animes with great DUBs from ADV:

- Plastic Little (Amanda Winn plays the lead)

- Dragon Half (Jessica Colvello, Amanda Winn, Rob Mungle, Spike Spencer, an all star cast)

- Excel Saga (I already mentioned it: Lorissa Wolcott, Jessica Colvello, Monicca Rails, Hillary Haag [as Menchi/Mince], Tiffany Grant)

- Gunsmiths Cats, my second favorite anime and manga series of all time (Amanda Winn leads as Rally Vincent, I think Kelly Manison plays Minnie-May Hopkins... I'll have to check on this one this afternoon)

- Puny Puny Poemi (I really didn't care for this mini-series [2 episodes], it was made by the creators of Excel Saga, but was too far, insane to the point of 1) being humorous, and 2) being annoying [there's a thin line, and I think this anime crossed it]... anyways, Lorissa Wolcott, Tiffany Grant, Monicca Rails, Hillary Haag [plays a fish... heh], and some more I can't remember)

- Bubble Gum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (Kelly Manison, Hillary Haag [Hillary Haag's first OVA DUB], ... and... shoot, they're all good, but I forgot some of the different stars. Anyways... I'll get back to you at this one... oh, and Spike Spencer's in this one, he does a great job.)

@NWalterstorf - have you posted in the "Roy's Anime Listings thread yet? You should.

and wasn't "Going to far" episode 27? or im horribly misguided >.<

either way its all about SUBS!!! if you like crazy kind of anime's you should watch Bokusatsu Tenchi Dokuro-chan, its cute and crazy (though not so much as Excel-saga of course) ^.^ i posted about it in the anime listsings thread im pretty sure.

they have not dubbed it yet - maybe they never will? its a small little 8 ep. series. i think i woudl never watch it dubbed... that would be weird.

Bonanza Wire:

Yeah, I forgot about Goldenboy. Who's the lead, isn't it Rob Mungle? Anyways, the lead does an excellent job, and there's plenty of laughs to be found. I personally didn't care for the last episode, but it was all pretty funny, especially the swimming classes episode.

Sumisem

I'll have to check it out. Both the thread and the anime you mentioned.

I used to be a huge fan of SUBs, and I still am, but the only DUBs I like are from ADV. :)

Thanks, so it's Doug Smith -- I can't believe I forgot his name. I've heard Doug Smith in numerous animes before. Rob Mungle is the name of another voice actor in ADV who does an excellent job, much like Doug Smith -- also, have you ever heard Spike Spencer? He does an excellent job.

He can play mostly comedic rolls, but he's also even done some animal sound effects - check out the Dragon Half OVA, and at the second episode near the end, the robotic bird noise he makes is really hilarious.
