COLUMBUS, Ga. - A 29-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing a friend in a dispute over how to use a PlayStation video game console.

Arthur Demaurice Priestly pleaded guilty to murder Monday in Muscogee County Superior Court in the killing of his friend, James Edwards Jr.

Judge Bobby Peters had rejected Priestly's bid to plead guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Edwards, 24, was shot to death on March 20 at Priestly's house. The two men were drinking heavily during a barbecue when they got into an argument about whether music should be played on Priestly's PlayStation.

Edwards died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The two men were friends and met while working together at a foundry and machine shop.

Remember they were heavily drunk. I wonder how Jack Thompson will come in from out of no where and use this as leverage.

The tie in between the crime and blaming it on video game violence is entirely inseperable. Not.

Seriously, I'm so sick and tired of these punks blaming things on video game violence. There's a psychological effect, but the individual must take responsibility for themselves (I.E. video games didn't change what I ate for breakfast) - they're not mindless animals, they're rational, reasoning humans. These guys must simply stop trying to pass their actions off to video games.

I'll remember this article the next time I kill somebody. That way it gives me leverage to escape charges. "Yeah, I shot him when we were arguing about whether the 360 was better than the PS3."

Jeez.
