In the discussion section of the RPG Maker wiki entry, the site is getting called into question.

Here's Mr. Sikma's profile:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Michiel_Sikma

The opening:

Quote:
I don't believe that RPG Maker Magazine is anything official. If they are, then please cite sources to prove that they are. They look like yet another RPG Maker site to me. --Michiel Sikma

Valk and I respond:

Quote:
It's kind of hard to cite conversations we had in private with agetec. you can go to rpgmaker.agetec.com and see that they've linked it from their main site though, just like the pavilion. Me and Ixzion are the leaders of the console RPG Maker community, so please try to take our word when it comes to matters involving it. -Valkysas

Hmm, I thought I mentioned up there that I am legit. As Valk said, you could confirm it with a visit to Agetec's official RPG Maker site. -Ixzion

And to the point it's at now: his response:

Quote:
I'm sorry, but I think that these are not satisfactory responses. I said that it should be proven that this site is anything official, because Wikipedia is not a place for untrustworthy information — it's not a place for link spam, or a commercial outlet. Sources must be verifiable. The link cannot say that it is the official English RPG Maker magazine if there are no sources to back this up; otherwise, the link is using Wikipedia for its own promotion, which is against official policy. --Michiel Sikma

(Note that I do see the link on rpgmaker.agetec.com, but this still does not make your site the "official magazine".) --Michiel Sikma

So, what do you guys think about all this?

At the risk of posting an unpopular opinion; He's Right.

We need to get Agetec to put a word or two calling us Official on their site or it is just you saying you are Official.

I do not like it.

But it is true.

Peace.

Getting agetec to do something like that is next to impossible though. We have a hard enough time just staying in contact with them.

Ix, do you still have the e-mail dave sent you where he named the mag an official site?

I went to look at Agetec's site to see what's there and it shows up like this:

Image

It may just be my browser and enlarged text setting (I need glasses, but refuse to sit close to the screen... Mommy says it's bad for me!), but that is no excuse!

If I offer to fix their code at the price of including the word "Official" do you think it would help?

Regal: Enlarge the text.
It will distort the tables.

I have viewed the code and know how to fix it, but if I publicly state the problem in any more detail they could just fix it themselves...

What about this:

Image

Does this count as Official?

We are linked to on the Official page!

That makes the link Official!

Well, as agetec's forum administrator, I just added a community links section to each of their RPG Maker forums, and in the mag's description, it says it's official. a sticky topic created by agetec's forum admin that is posted on agetec's own forum declares the mag as an official site.

I think they're in the wrong. I mean, it's mentioned in at least one part of the Agetec site that the Pav and the Mag are the official RPG Maker sites. I do not know why this person would challenge you. Is he even in the RPG Maker community? Has he ever had close relations to Agetec, most likely not.

I think it's simply someone with too much time on their hands. This is the kind of crap that allows me to laugh when Ytmnders mess with wikipedia info for REAL. :lol

he's someone from the PC RPGM community. as I said in a replu there. he doesnt know anything about the console series or community, so he should leave that stuff to me and Ix. and hell, wiki entries can be edited by anyone, so I dunno where he gets off acting like he's suddenly the damn boss.

That's even more ironic then. I mean, there is a good portion of the PC RPG Maker community that is far from legit and stole funds. And he talks out against the official label.>_>

From the way this was playing out I assumed he was Wikipedis staff.

Surely they have a system for reporting such abuses.

What happens if you use it?

If he is with wikipedia's staff then he just wants some proof that the website is official. Well its on the agetec website but still he wants to see agetec label this place as a official website for the rpgm series

he's not staff. just some random guy.

Looks like my post at the agetec forum was verification enough for him. Score one more for us.

Michiel Sikma needs to stop trying to be such a literalist anyway. That's his oppinion... here's mine:

Within the wide world of the web, there are only a handful of sites that even feature RPGM. I've been to that pav and what-not, but this site, by far has met any requirements to being official. If Agetec has established any relationship with us AT ALL, then that should be more than enough...

Personally I find it interesting that anything can have two official sites. I guess that shows that you two did such a great job, Agetec simply could not choose. Or maybe it's simply because Ixy used to help run the Pav while at the same time running this place and thus they were both considered official because of that. Or maybe because of that almost-merger.

Well, Pavilion has been agetec's official US RPG Maker site since august 2000.

as for the mag, from what I understand, agetec really likes the issues the site produces, kind of like an RPG Maker newsletter.

Ah, yes. How often do we get those, anyway? Is it supposed to be quarterly?

There's no standard date for the issues. Sometimes, when things are slow, we can't really produce one. Or if we get super busy.

One is in the works right now with OW.
