Ok, I'm getting sick of this "no more war" shiz. Ok, yeah, the war is hard on everyone and no one wants it, but while we're there we have to finish the mission. If you quit the mission, all the lives lost will have been for nothing. But you don't care. You just want everyone to come back. Don't you guys know that soldiers are asking to go back as well as not wanting to go? These guys know that if we bail out now, everything we have done is for nothing. We have to finish the job, like it or not.

There comes a point when the sodier on the ground has to make a conscious decision to walk away. They have to make the moral jugement call and follow what they belive in not the will or whims of some suited beurocrat that has never seen the horrors of war. Such heartless people only see the soldiers as if they were members of a colony of ants Totaly expendable and easily replaced.

When I was young and in grade school, I used to kick the wall before goin in after recess because I thought it was alive. I don't know why I kicked it though.

What Staffy said just now seems the most right, but ultimately I would say that none of us can make any definite judgments either way because we ourselves are not soldiers like them and cannot understand what it is like to fight.

... I once did the same thing that you had done in grade school, Phoenix, only it wasn't with my foot that I attacked the wall - it was the fake decorative sword that I had used as a visual aid for a speech I had done earlier that day.

we dont know what goes through the mind of a soldier in the middle of combat. 1 choice can lead to death during battle.

You'll forgive me if I protest, perhaps.
The mind of the soldier, while fascinating and, above all, harrowing, isn't really the major aspect of this debacle.

Going with that, however, there are several things I'd comment on.
Staffy wasn't talking of what it was -like- to fight, he was concerned with what was involving those who threw the pawns into the fray so the queen might have more room to reach the back row.

And, if you want the mind of the soldier, I posted awhile back a letter from a soldier to his father (seen here: http://www.rpgmmag.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2616)that I was given through my acquiantance with.
I also would reccomend the documentary Why We Fight, an expository look at the current economical and political state through the eyes of ex-Pentagon staff, soldiers, veterans, ex-CIA, senators, newscasters, parents, and numerous others.
Also notably informative and harrowing.

What's more, there are several books written by U.S. soldiers from Iraq upon there return. Easily enough located on Amazon, I'd imagine.

From Why We Fight, and wonderfully in keeping with Staffy's statement:
"So, why we fight, I think it's because there aren't enough people who stand up and say I'm not doing this anymore."
-- Ex-Pentagon Official, who left because of her personal disgust, as a member of the innerworkings of the war itself, though her name I can't recall as of now.
