Usually when we ask that we're not expecting an answer. It's like

Man: "Hey, what took you so long?"
Woman: "I was taking a sh..."
Man: "Okay let's go."

so the question you could ask might be; are those who get reproached idiots, or are those who don't get reproached not idiots? think about that one, it makes sense to ask. cause the first leads you to conclude we're all idiots, the second to conclude none of us are.

Actually, no, neither of those answers are so.
What I said was used to proof what you originally said, which makes the answer "We're all idiots sometimes."

ehh... i should make my point more clear.

if someone who does something idiotic is 'being an idiot', then it seems reasonable to assume that 'an idiot' is therefore someone who acts idiotically either a larger proportion of the time, or the majority of the time.

as said ^ 'we're all idiots sometimes'.

this seems to indicate that none of us are idiotic an more than everyone else. some are just unlucky enough to have it paid more attention to.

so we reach the choice i described above; is everyone an idiot, cause we all have the same maximum amount of idiotry in our lives? is noone an idiot, cause noone stands out from the average?

personally, i agree with what you said in the previous post, but to reconcile our opinions i think it could perhaps be stated as;

'we all ACT like idiots sometimes, but none of us ARE idiots.'

sorry, its the philosophy course speaking.

Yes, the courses training you to work extra hard to uncover the Given in situations.
Heh.
That was always my problem with philsophy courses, the need to include the given in all treatise's and such, just for hollisticallity's sake. I can understand, but I do find it amusing to be agreeing with someone and then have them explain why we were agreeing.

Your point was apparent, but the need for your point wasn't.

hahaha

nice reaction. i hate the anal-retentivity to which i have become accustomed, but i can't control it.

seriously, the closer you get to the heart of a matter, the more mysterious old men you see standing around arguing patiently about semantics. drives me crazy sometimes.

Stupid questions demand sarcastic answers! :D

And Regal and NLY just had a philosophical conversations up there. See? The Mag is not damned!!

(But I didn't get one thing of what they were saying, just a comment about something 'anal'. Not gonna ask.)

I have a friend in which we agree on alot. We then do as such by explaining our thoughts on what we agree on. It makes for conversation, as well as makes the point sound more justified. That, or maybe it was for other readers of the thread to better understand your opinions...

... of which I agree

It wasn't so much that we were agreeing that was the amusing part, for two consorts dabbling in why they're right is always a pleasant occasion.
It's that when someone has undergone the treatment of a philosophy course they tend to not consider an opinion or theory completed until it has presented the given. I gave a theory to which he agreed, however he then he gave me what he knew me to be missing, even though it was Given. That is what was so amusing.

Like I said though, searching for the given isn't something I'm opposed to, it makes for a nice complete perception of a situation, it was just an interesting little thing to be agreeing with someone and then have them back up and correct me.
