A new RPG Tsukuru title has been announced in Japan!


RPGT DS has a style reminiscent of RPG Maker 1 as far as the battle system and 2D focus, but everything has been improved by a large degree. The best part: being able to send data over wifi!

The RPG Maker series has been around in one form or another in Japan since 1992. The latest version, RPG Maker VX, was released worldwide by Enterbrain last year for Windows PCs. The last English-language console release was the PS2's RPG Maker 3 (2005).

It comes out on my birthday in Japan. However... the graphics are the same as VX's, if that screenshot is from the DS version. I might as well continue to work in VX if that is the case.

Since when did graphics determine if a RPG Maker is good or not? Certainly not true with RM3. lol.

I don't care what you guys say, RE1 might be a great balance of ease and power but its graphics are so bad as to be prohibitive unless you soley are going for a classic look. You are limited to that style and anyone who wants to make an RPG that does not want a classic look (which may be a number of newer and younger designers) WILL require better graphics. Admittedly this may not be as much an issue for a DS RPGM since contemporary handheld RPGs tend to have more a classic look than contemporary console RPGS but regardless of how we may feel personally, contemporary gamers have high graphic expectations.

Then contemporary gamers can go cry a river. RM3 still seems to be the worst one of the lot, where as RM1 is still the staple maker of the community. The only thing that RM1 really lacks is the usage of variables. Grahpics, as far as importances, isn't that high on the totem pole, imho.

The graphics don't bother me any, as they are good. However, as a VX user, why would I spend money on a handheld that has the EXACT same graphics as a program I use already and the PC program can do MORE things than the handheld can? Point made.

But I can type so much faster on my keyboard and I can use scripts to infinitely enhance my game where RMDS wouldn't be able to do that.

I guess using RM1 since 2002 has gotten me to the point were I'm pretty use to it. I still would really like the portability.

Also, RPG Maker DS, if localized by Agetec, would probably be cheaper than $60 and has the opportunity of coming down in price as time goes on. Plus, if Agetec gets it onto big-name store shelves, it will gather some real attention from people randomly browsing handheld games (and I know several of us picked up the console games for that very reason), whereas the PC RPGMs are really only gathering the attention of those who are already familiar with them.

I know, that doesn't help you, Syn, and you can go ahead and stick with VX if you want. I myself am definately willing to get this one, if only to help show that there is still interest in non-PC RPGMs.

I really don't care what system a new rpgmaker comes up on. I'll buy it solely for the fact that it would show Agetec there's still interest in this. The fact that it's on the DS is icing on the cake.

what it comes down to is that RPG Maker DS would revitalize the console RPGM community. thats the biggest thing to me.

Hey Agetec, why not unveil RPGM 1.1 where Malibu Staci has a new hat? Apparently all 8 of us will buy it so it surely will be worth it to you to release it to the US. Don't worry we are like a 42 year old woman. We are desparate for something and apparently quality is not an issue.

As mentioned, RMDS would mean a LOT more people looking up console RPG Maker communities online. A big boost for the community. I don't see how that can be considered a bad thing.

Actually, they wouldn't have to look for communities. Agetec would point new buyers straight to http://rpgmaker.agetec.com/ like they did with RPGM3.

Also, I think that site's a lot of lost potential.
