I could use some help. SK's laptop died and his desktop doesn't have a serial port for his Dex Drive... I remember someone talking about adapters they'ved used and know they worked.

I would very much appriciated a link to one.

there is a place downtown that sells them for like 12 bucks, dont pay more then that for one. the one i use is similar to the one in the link ill post. futureshop sells their own brand but its 50 bucks and the damn thing isnt compatible with windows!

Problem is that some work with dex (or vista's the problem- I honestly don't know) and some don't. At least that's my experience. I bought a few and sent one that worked to nex a while back and he can't get it to work and now I can't get the same kind to work either. Yet it did at one point. I can't help much really other than saying keep trying different ones till it works.

Actually, I'm going to his house tomorrow... I built his computer, and remember there being a COM port on his motherboard. If so I can grab an extra serial port (uses a PCI). And he has an ASUS board... which I have a few in my office that are ASUS and they too have COM ports. But still, seeing as serial is a thing of the past, finding a USB Serial atapter is still rather important.

when it says its not connected you just have to close the dexplorer and unplug and replug the com port and load it again. eventually it will work. i find i get a higher success if i load it with a mem card already in the port.

Likewise, I do not ever use the DexPlorer without a memory card already inserted. If I swap cards, DexPlorer gets turned off while I do so.

But I do this because that slot is rather tight. Considering how much shifting it sometimes takes to get it in or out, I'd rather not risk corrupting my memory card by having the DexPlorer trying to read it when I'm swapping.
