Yes, I'm still alive. I just moved away from my parents a few weeks ago, and have yet to get either a computer or the internet. Gonna work on the computer tonight (Dude, I'm getting a Dell), but the internet, I'm not sure of. I'm living in my late grandmother's trailer (though it's pretty decent for a trailer; even has a front porch, and there's that swimming pool at my other grandparents' house, which happens to be across the yard). I'm wondering if ethernet can be installed in such a place.
Anyway, progress report. Um...it's been a while.
The RPG Maker, who knows what I'm going to do with that. I will say, it will not be on RPGM1. With RMXP coming out in less than a month (in which case RPGM1 will be useless outside of playing already released RPGM1 games), I want to release something for it real quick before I give up on the tool. Most likely, using that CBS.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what that one-month project will be. For the past few months (or however long it's been since my last post), I've been trying to come up with some short storyline along with trying to come up with some other type of game (at one point I considered reviving a Lode Runner-style game called Ratz & Meece). I was able to come up with several ideas, but none of them I have an interest in.
I figure, I could try doing what I did with The RPG Maker. When I started writing the plans, I didn't have much of an idea of what would happen. I knew what the story would be about (namely what the title relates to and the four important objects in the game), but most everything I came up with as I put it down, with the only planning ahead occurring when I put down something with a later event in mind. I finished with a kinda average story, but after some improvements, I think I came up with something pretty good, though not fantastic. Yeah, I think I'll do that this time. Except, I don't have an idea what the story will be about. Your guess is as good as mine.
Now for my plans for RMXP and RPGM3. Well right now, nothing is planned for RPGM3, until I find out what's in it. RMXP, I've had the import for a while, but I'll go ahead and get this US release. My first project will probably be a revival of Something Stupid XI. Along with that, I will try my hand at putting Ratz & Meece on it (easily possible on RPGM1, but it will look soooo much better on RMXP). That's it as far as planning goes.
Regarding [game which shall not be mentioned by name], I'm still debating on what to do with that. Can't decide between putting it in 2D or 3D. I love 2D RPGs, but putting in 3D means I'd be able to throw in some nice cinematics.
Jester's Hunt 3D and Thief of Magic will probably never be revived. Not unless I start liking making games on RPGM2.
7/6/05Tried restarting The RPG Maker, but couldn't decide whether to put it on RPGM1 or 2, nor the fate of the CBS.
6/28/05Talked about a potential idea for a replacement story. Didn't actually say what the story was about, in case I changed my mind. (And guess what!)
6/20/05Tech demo canned. Restarting CBS from scratch as it became a mess. Forgot to date update again.
6/18/05Worried about memory consumption of CBS and puzzles.
6/12/05Demo's CBS halfway done, but taking up a good chunk of memory.
6/3/05Forgot to date update. The RPG Maker story canned due to story requiring 4-member parties and CBS restricted to 3-member parties. Or was it? Demo gonna take a while longer.
5/26/05CBS causing headache, decided to map out the CBS on paper. Demo half-finished.
5/20/05Announced demo to be completed by end of month. Started worrying about time constraints.
5/18/05Had found a problem with the CBS for The RPG Maker (RPGM1), but found a way around it.
