A discussion has recently come up in a chatroom whether Super Paper Mario is a good game. This topic has come up so often, I felt it was high time to show everyone why it is not. Here to help back my factual opinion are Lantis and Ixzion.




For the first episode, we simply cover the intro. It's not so bad. But next week... oh, gosh. Things are gonna get interesting.

To make things even more "enjoyable" for us, this is not our first attempt recording this LP. We had a slight disaster with the audio during our first attempt. Super Paper Mario is basically what happens if you take Super Mario Bros., add a story and RPG elements, and give Mario the ability to swap between 2D and 3D mode. And it's that last part that provides the main issue with this game.

I know it's a bit harsh to say a town is "completely pointless", but as far as towns go, this one doesn't serve any more purpose than a town in Castlevania II. Really, it feels more like part of the level than an actual town. Heck, it doesn't even have a town theme! I know it seems like I'm being picky, considering the nature of this let's play, but even the first time I played this game, I was disappointed with this town.



And of course, I gotta mention that this is a retake, due to audio issues with our first attempt. That attempt can be found in the following link, although aside from the shenanigans near the start of the episode and some secret door we couldn't get into, it's really not much different.

When you can bypass an entire map because you already know what to do, that is NOT good game design.



Unfortunately, there will be no more "anti-bonus" episodes. You see, I was trying to delete some source files from the previous videos, only to delete the source file that I was about to edit, instead.

It's kinda bittersweet, actually. On the one hand, it means I no longer have to put together the same episode twice (which was getting tedious). On the other hand, this desert was the reason why we decided to upload our original reactions in the first place!

I have no complaints about this dungeon.



Actually, I gotta admit, we were probably a bit harsh towards this game for this first chapter. I mean, most of it was justified, but some of the harshness probably came from the fact that we had just attempted a recording of the game earlier in the week. Our original reactions were trashed, and we knew the stupid things that this game was about to force upon us. So it was kinda hard to enjoy ourselves and give the game props where it was needed.

As for the failed version of this video, I'm not gonna bother posting it. Aside from me being slightly lost, it wasn't a whole lot different than what you see here. Though there were a couple crack jokes that I regret leaving behind. Oh well, at least I included the "falling in the wall" clip.

Personally, I thought we were doing a good job of giving the game props where it deserved it. If we were bias about it at all, we'd just label everything as stupid.

This episode doesn't really have anything in it that I want to complain about, but we have a rather interesting revelation that makes this worth posting, anyway.



And as a reminder, I didn't do much editing because I decided it isn't worth the almost two hours of editing per episode when I have such a small audience.

In this episode, the 3D mode gets even MORE broken.

Also, I decided that I should at least still have a title at the beginning of my LPs, even if I don't have a full-blown intro. What do you think about this? Does it work? Actually, this episode especially, I kinda regret ending all the extra editing I did. We had a couple fun ideas to do for it. Though, it doesn't matter too much, as we eventually just stop referring Peach as her title altogether.

The 3D mechanics in this game really strawberry my banana.

"Dreadmills". I'll leave it at that.

I think this LPisode is important.

Yeah, one of the most important of the series so far. HOLD YOUR BREATH.
