I was using my girlfriend's computer and viewing new posts since the last time I was logged in. Then the internet went out in our apartment so I turned off the computer and came downstairs to the shared community computers and logged in here. And to my surprise when I checked new posts, instead of their being none the full list that I saw was there. I presumed there would be none because I both felt that by losing the internet connection and/or shutting off the computer I should have been logged out upstairs and I also felt it wouldn't matter even if I was logged on upstairs because this is a different computer down here and I was not previously logged on here but upon logging on upstairs should have cleared the list for any subsequent acts of logging on (i.e down here).

Is this a fluke or is this consistent with how it should work.

Thanks.

Without the server acknowledging that you have logged out, it won't clear the list. Closing the browser, cutting power, shutting off the computer, and other similar methods of closing connection will not clear the list immediately.

Click logout, or click mark posts read. Those are about your only options.

For clarity, this data is not stored in a cookie. It is stored server-side, which is why you saw the result you did.
