Crazy Skating
Developer: Jerbils
Genre: Skating
Release: June 2003
Rating: Everyone
Never before has this type of game been attempted, let alone finished for RPG Maker. But I believe the creator wanted to leave his mark with an innovative title that people will remember him by. Crazy Skating is that mark.

Crazy Skating is a skating game. Don't laugh. A skating game. It has ramps, kickers, tricks: you name it. Jerbils has performed quite a task in making an actual skating game for RPGM that doesn't feel like a point and click adventure. Now I will not stand here and tell you that Crazy Skating is the next Tony Hawk, because it's not and couldn't possibly be. However, within the limitations of RPGM (as well as only 2 memory cards!), Jerbils has made a solid and innovative game.

There are 8 levels with 6 level goals in each one, ranging from maiming people to doing incredible tricks. The beauty of this system is that you can't complete levels on your first try. Sometimes, you must learn a trick from a latter level to fully finish a previous one. But be forwarned: Crazy Skating is a fun, but challenging game. Many times, you will be required to collect all the money (the more you have, the more levels you can enter) to keep moving on, an that usually means completing each level you come to. And better check EVERYTHING twice and from different sides; you'll never know what you need to complete certain goals if you don't.

Overall, Crazy Skating is an RPGM Skateboarding-lovers dream. But, all people should play this game to see how almost any limitation in RPG Maker can be bended, twisted or even broken. Download it now. I SAID NOW!

Presentation
+ Custom skateboarder, ramp pieces and level designs are pretty decent. The skating effects, such as going up and coming down from a ramp, as well as jumps and grinds were demostrated well. The game also benefited from well-placed sound effects.

- Though decent, the level designs could've used more decoration. Also, some of the level goals were a little cryptic in meaning, resulting in some meandering the levels. Not too bad, though.

Features
+ The bevy of tricks, grinds, jumps and humor really leave an impression on the player. The addition of a "Pro Video" after fully completing a level was also a good idea.

- A small disappointment was that the tricks weren't particularly distinguishible from each other. I know this would have cut into the developer's sanity and 2-card limit, but it's no biggie.
[Final]: 23/25%

Debugging
+ Spelling's in check, events work correctly, no need to reset. Great job.

- No problem in sight.

Fun
+ Great visuals and the humorous level goals made me laugh out loud (that's "lol" to most of you. :p) on several occasions. If you want a great time, then this is the game you want.

- As I've said, some of the level goals or hints aren't exactly clear, so you have to wander around a little. That puts a tiny scratch in my decision for this score.
[Final]: 24/25%

[Overall]: 94/100%
One part innovation + one part skating game = one fine game for you! ;)
