Q1. What have you been up to since you released your last RPG Maker
game, Dark Illusions?
Vonwert: Playing all those video games that would have eaten up my
time making Dark Illusions. And hoping for a chance to make a game in
RPG2, but only to be dissappointed.
Q2. Do you have any plans for a new game, then?
Vonwert: Yes. One that contains little stories that all come
together at the end. It will be another puzzle filled adventure game.
Booby traps and pirate treasure.
Q3. Oh? That's good to hear! What's this new game called and would
you mind telling us about it?
Vonwert: Well, the temporary title is called "Cursed Desires". It is
about a young college student, Lex Johnson, who happens to become the sole
inheritor of a wealthy man's fortune and legacy. In
the man's collection of antiques, is a diary. The diary of Anne Bonny. One
of the most famous female pirates to ever roam the ocean. But her story
was lost to history, until Lex reads her diary and discovers the location
of her lost treasure. Each treasure holds a curse. Lex takes it upon
himself to find each treasure and find what happen to Anne Bonny.
Q4. That sounds pretty interesting. What kinds of gameplay do you
plan to incorporate into this game?
Vonwert: I plan on having puzzle dungeons in which Lex will have to
travel through to reach each treasure. Mainly, Lex will first read the
section of the diary, where the player will see flashbacks to Anne's
story, then it will go to the modern time, where Lex will search for
that certain treasure. Each puzzle dungeon will be themed around the
treasure, or around some myth. There will mini-games throughout, drinking
game, simon-says game, ect. I also plan on having intricate boobytraps
that will set off when the player gets something wrong. Another feature
will be a heart bar, where when you hit a booby trap, you will loose a
heart. when all 3 hearts are gone, Lex is dead. I also plan on having
side scroller parts with Lex's pet bird. He will have to fly through
places that Lex can't enter or reach.
Q5. Very nice! What kind of experience do you hope to give to
players of this game?
Goob: I hope to give them a few scares this time. I plan on doing
different, simple things to actually scare the player -- which can be a
hard thing to do in RPGMaker. I also want them to learn about Anne Bonny,
and to just enjoy themselves.
Q6. What has been the hardest part about taking "Cursed Desires"
from mind to RPG Maker?
Vonwert: The hardest thing would be trying to figure out where
things should go in what order. I always have a hard time with that. I
was orginally going to have Lex read the diary in parts throughout each
part of a single dungeon, but I found that would have been too much work
to do.
Q7. How long do you think it'll take before we get a demo or full
version? Are you going to release one?
Vonwert: No demo. I tend to make the game from beggining to end, so
I won't be releasing a demo, but as for the full version, it will be
sometime just before the deadline of the rpgmpavilion.com contest 3.
Q8. What do you think about people still using RPG Maker 1 after
being released for so long? Any words of encouragement?
Vonwert: I believe it just shows how a simple sprite based maker is
still very dear in people's hearts. It can be easily used to make games
and play them. Many people have pushed the limits and still do of the
maker. I am very glad people are still making games for it, and I really
can't wait to play everyone's new game. I am looking forward to playing
Gustav's new game and Czechs' new game!
Q9. Do you have any more projects on the horizon after you wrap up
this one?
Vonwert: Well, to be honest, since I made my dective game, and once I
finish Cursed Desires, I probably won't be making anymore games till a
new maker comes out.
Thanks for your time, Vonwert!
