Where do you see the RM community in 5 years?

Edit: This was printed before news of RPG Maker 3's release.

I'm going to be frank. If the RM community doesn't get a new, useable RPG Maker, interest is going to wane heavily. Now, I'm not saying the community is going to die off, but we really need a new, legal RPG Maker and pronto. RPG Maker 2 was far and away more complex and unforgiving than the last one. There are still people who use RPG Maker 2 for their games, however I think more people still use RPG Maker 1!

Speaking of RPGM1, there's been a decent surge in games being made for the platform. Perhaps it's because of the contest at the Pavilion?

In other news, I have a special surprise for all of you readers coming up in a few days. I'm just about finished, and everyone who's seen what I've been working on say that it's probably one of the most awesome things ever. Don't take their word for it, because I'm working on it as you're reading this.

But yeah, I'll probably keep on updating the site until I have it perfected. That's going to be a long time from now, and updating the site is my hobby. I like doing it, even though I'm quite busy a lot of the time. But, if we don't get that new Maker in those 5 years, I might branch off and make another site to do something else.

My response to the editorial's topic is probably the shortest in RPGMM history, but there's really not much you can say about it. Bottom line is: we're going to keep moving on and see where the future takes us. Hopefully, you guys will be with us.

I think a lot of people will leave... fire for RPG Maker will die down, yeah, I know that isn't pleasant. Also, a lot of us are going to college soon, or are already in college. Only the future can tell for sure.

I don't see the community changing much at all. Maybe we'll have moved on to new tech, maybe not (I vote for the former, since for the most part we have). But the important thing is to remember the things we had, we all remember the first posts we made, either at the mag or elsewhere, how excited we all were to bring these mundane little creations in our minds to an actual existance in a form that everyone could experience...then of course we'd get RPGM1 and it'd be more than a humbling experience.

I recently watched an episode of Babylon 5 where an alien mentions that "The one unique quaility of humans is that everywhere they go, they establish communities, of all different people, sometimes friendly, sometimes hostile." I agree fully, and I think that it would even extend to internet message boards. So, where do I see the RM community in 5 years? I can't say for sure where I would fit into the puzzle, but I am 100% sure that it will still exist.

Sure people will come and go....for all we know RPGM might cease to exist...but the communities created because of it will NOT die. They may become smaller, but the bonds made over the course of the years will not die.

The spirit of RPG Maker would most likely be dead. However, I can't see the communities dying out. They would be social communities instead of having direction.

People don't just part ways after 3 or 4 years over something as stupid as a game line dying.

I don't really know. In 5 years, I most likely won't even have the time to mess around with RPG Maker. If the RPG Maker series continues to dive bomb, the communities will most likely be dead because hardly anyone will care anymore.
