Animal Adventure by GoobtheBoob!
RPG Maker Magazine Issue 2.1 » Page 5a: Interview with GoobtheBoob
Q1. Who are you and please tell us about yourself.
Goob: My name is Joseph Bailey, aka GoobtheBoob. My hobbies are watching TV, playing RPGM2 and typing on Agetec's message board.

Q2. How did you get into RPG Maker 2 and what projects have you done/finished?
Goob: Well, I get game magazines and one day I saw RPG Maker 2 in there and I thought "Whoah! I love RPGs already, but to make my own?!??! WOW!" Soooo about a month later I bought it.

Animal Adventure is my first real game, though I've had many test projects to see how to make cutscenes, bosses, scripts, etc. So right now, just one game.

Q3. Speaking of Animal Adventure, what is that game all about, anyway?
Goob: Animal Adventure is about a sheep who runs away from her abusive farmer along with her friend pig. The pig and the sheep get split up somehow, but wanna save the horse they left behind and destroy the farmer. It is an adventure game, obviously, and it's pretty short but this is the game where I figured out things mostly. It's got 5 levels including The Farm, Murder Mansion, Under the Sea, The City and the Farmer's Mansion and it's got HUGE levels one's you can get lost in!

Q4. What type of gameplay have you included in this game? Does it use the default system or did you make something else?
Goob: Default system. I still can't make a CMS or CBS! Gameplay...uhh mazes. A lot of them. Hahahaha. And...umm a lot of battles and rising sea blowing up. I didn't make my own character models. I used the VFX for the farmer and that's all I did with VFX.

Q5. What do you hope that gamers will take away from this game? What kind of experience would you like for them to have?
Goob: A great experience is what I'd like them to have but in this kind of game they'll probably get a Pac-Man type fun experience :\ I've had 3 people try it so far, two being my friends and then the last Dungeon Warden, and they all said that it was OK but pretty good for a first try and yes, they all said the levels were too big :'( and so maybe a kinda good experience not great but not bad).

Q6. What has been the hardest part of getting what you saw in your mind into RPG Maker's tools?
Goob: Teleport. I tried for like 3 months on how to teleport. I kept trying to use the preset data and then I had to buy the guide book. :( Another hard thing was variables and flags. It took me a while for that, too! But what took me the longest was figuring out what kind of game to make first. I was thinking puzzle, then RPG. Then I tried RPG and I said "NO!" Hahaha. Then I tried adventure and that was the best I could think of.

Q7. Now that you have one project out of the way, what's next for you?
Goob: Well, next is vacation from RPGM2! Lol! But the next game I'm making is Animal Adventure 2 -- The Legend Of Bacon. I hope to get the demo done in about a week. I've worked a lot harder on this one! I now know how to use variables, classes, Flags and EVEN MAKE A WORKING CLOCK!!! I got the story kinda planned out; it's gonna be like Zelda. It's about a pig who lives in this town and has a princess named Bacon and Bacon gets stolen by an evil cook and Dolly Parton (The Sheep in Animal Adventure 1) steals the pig's weapon and now the pig has to find her, get his weapon back, and rescue Princess Bacon.

Q8. Haha! That idea sounds oddly funny to me. :) What would you suggest to people new to RPG Maker if they have a rough time?
Goob: BUY THE GUIDE BOOK!! Or ask people that have made games or just come to the Agetec or Pavilon (RPGM2) message boards. They helped me a lot with leveling up and stuff. Hmm...this is the hardest question yet. Lol. Just try to figure everyting out by making little 5-minute games. Figure out a lot of scripting commands and just the basics map editing event editing etc.

Q9. Last question. What's your favorite part of RPG Maker Magazine's issues?
Goob: My favorite part is the reviews and interviews you guys do. It helps me figure out if it's a good game or if it's a good try. But I liked last issue when u had the valintines thing :D But, all in all, the mag is great! It's like reading a real mag!

Thanks for your time, Goob!
